Kobe isn't attention whoring, he's adding more chips to his shoulder.

Almost creepy at this stage how much Kobe has patterned himself after Mike, but MJ did THE EXACT same thing. The difference was that when he left the game he was still on top. But these guys have this weird almost neurotic desire to be the best. So if they see something contrary to ("Kobe is the 7th best player in the league") it becomes very, very, verrrry personal for them.

The previous era has ended. It is now Lebron's era. To this day MJ struggles with this. (HoF speech, firing back at Kobe, etc.) I feel like Kobe is a far more normal human being than Mike, but he still is abnormally competitive. Guys like a Tim Duncan can just ride off into the sunset. Kobe can't do that, and it will be very interesting to see what happens as his career winds down.

When Bryant was asked about the respective teams, he did mention that the Dream Team had some older players on it's roster, but he mentioned them as older in comparison to some of the "young race horses" that the 2012 teams has. I don't believe he was including himself among the young players
