Defense he was not mentally strong but he is legit 7'2 and huge wingspan so was a good rim protector by default. Also had great Man D when he focused.

He was only '5th best' because he was injured in the finals in 2009 and 2010. When healthy he was a solid #3 behind Mamba and Pau. He still shut down prime Dwight Howard with one leg.

That's not true. Gasol was the guy who primarily guarded D12 in the finals. And that shocked me because Gasol gets pushed around by much lesser players.

Every Laker fan knows that the top trio in that era was Kobe, Gasol and Odom. That was our big 3. Then you had guys like Ariza, Fish, Artest and Bynum. Bynum and Gasol gave us unmatched height/length down low but Bynum was not yet a dominant player, although he did have some stretches of dominance.
