Yup, he was legit 7'1" or taller and had an amazing wingspan. His height and length alone made him a presence in the paint by default, as you said.

Losing Bynum,Yao and Oden to injury was rough on the league. People act like there are just no big men now, but injuries ravaged the position just as much as style of play or any of that stuff.

Skills and size of a champion.
After his first big injury, a mindset of a role player
    Body made of glass.

For me, a big tragedy. He looked like the future of the franchise at times. Injuries made him stop caring.

Yes, it was Prime Dwight back then-after his finals trip D12 got continually worse.
That's not true. Gasol was the guy who primarily guarded D12 in the finals. And that shocked me because Gasol gets pushed around by much lesser players.

Every Laker fan knows that the top trio in that era was Kobe, Gasol and Odom. That was our big 3. Then you had guys like Ariza, Fish, Artest and Bynum. Bynum and Gasol gave us unmatched height/length down low but Bynum was not yet a dominant player, although he did have some stretches of dominance.

Bynum and Pau easily two of the best bigmen outside of Shaq and Duncan that the current millennium has seen so far.

Let's not forget Bynum won 2 rings. How many did Dwight, Yao, Cousins win?
