because of the contrived farewell tour.

everyone from upper management down to the lowest bench player has accepted that this year will be wasted on this BS tour. only after that can they start getting serious about winning again.

there's an assortment of reasons

-we're a rebuilding team that is catering to a legends farewell tour.
-for the past 3 off seasons, we've only signed stop gap pieces in free agency
-we have a coach who has an out-dated understanding of offense
-we have a coach who PREACHES defense, but can get no one to buy into his philosophy
-we have a coach who stands on the sideline looking like some confused jackass (doesnt add to losses, but god damn is it annoying)

this past week was a fun one, though. we stayed competitive in most of our games, but still got to put that lottery-aiding L in the record books

Lakers are actually in decent position. Being held hostage by kobe is a bit overblown because if they were only beholden to kobe they would have tried to build more competitive teams. Instead i think they've balanced as much as possible Kobe's last years with acquiring a young core. Besides their young talent they have also managed their cap situation well.

There are many reasons, but I think the main one is that they just don't care, and have chalked up this season as the farewell tour
