The Pain: Sharp, sometimes throbbing pain in my lower back, concentrated on the right side near the spine.

The pain is the worst when I try to stand up after sitting for awhile, although it still hurts even if I've only been sitting for 10 mins or so.

For the most part it doesn't hurt while walking, but while playing sports it starts to hurt after awhile.

What could this be, should I see a doctor?

BTW, I'm not a doctor. You should listen to one of them and not to me, but here's my assessment:

Sounds like sciatic nerve compression/sciatica. If you can afford it I would certainly see a doctor, but just schedule an appointment when you can, it's not like you need to run to the hospital. If it's a sharp pain that feels like it's "in your bones" or in your back muscles, it is pretty likely sciatica. If it feels like a rather than a visceral, internal pain, it might be something else and see a doctor asap.
