It's the same thing the Oklahoma City Thunder went through two years ago after losing Kevin Durant. Hayward isn't in the transformational star category that Durant is, but he certainly was at the heart of the Jazz's core building strategy. It was a process to get to where the team was a season ago: 51 wins and a second-round playoff appearance. To lose Hayward was a hard reset, and it forced the Jazz back to the middle of the crowded West.
He wasn't the heart as was proven yet again this year. Their 1st and 4th best players from last year returned. Mitchell was better than Hill. Favors was better this year. Neto was better this year. Burks was better this year. They got rid of Hood! Thabo, Jerebko, Udoh and O'Neale contributed. Exum was better.

"Do we want and/or need another scorer? Can some of the scoring come from within? Ricky as a scorer, Alec Burks' return to health, Dante Exum's development. So we'll just take a step back and evaluate it."
Why even mention Burks? He needs to go if the coach won't play him unless forced to. Ricky as a scorer is the plan? Dante?

Another scorer would be nice but what they need is more shooting. A lot more

The thing is, the Jazz probably already have that second star. Mitchell has developed in almost every way the Jazz coaching staff asked him to, adding wrinkles to his game one film session at a time, such as wrong-footed finishes or floating drives. He has a competitive bravado to him, the kind that after a few playoff fires will only burn hotter.
Probably? They have two stars and a great role player in Ingles. Getting more stars is not necessarily a given but a lot more shooters can be had and it would improve the offense a bunch and put them right in the mix. No reason they can't run pick and roll with shooters around them like Houston does.

Though as Mitchell ascends and the offense gravitates more to him and accessing his elite skills (his usage rate climbed to 31.8 percent in the playoffs), can the Jazz maintain the structure and system that are in place, or will they have to evolve? Is Mitchell good enough to be his own offensive system in the way Harden is for the Rockets?
    yes

"We have a defensive base to start from and several good players under contract, a few players who are free agents that we hope to retain," Lindsey said. "I think we're well-positioned for the next few years. We could have a little bit of flexibility going into this offseason, but more likely, the group deserves another shot to improve."
They do? I think some of the guys on the roster can shoot better. Mitchell, Crowder, O'Neale maybe Exum but you need more shooting. Can't have enough. The depth wasn't good either specially after Hood and Johnson were traded and Thabo was hurt. More shooting and more depth.

Favors gone. Exum possibly gone depending on the price. Rubio ideally would be gone. Burks, Neto, Thabo, and Jonas might as well be gone since they aren't appreciated but I guess if Favors is gone Thabo/Jerebko/Udoh might be more in the mix? Burks and Neto could be if Exum and Rubio were gone but the fact that the coach played Rubio and Exum over them to begin with tells me they aren't appreciated.

Kyle Goon: The first round of Jazz workout participants has been announced. Includes Elijah Bryant from BYU, as well as national championship hero Donte DiVencenzo
Bryant can shoot at least. Good size. Not sure on his length. D will be what makes or breaks him as far as the NBA goes.

This team oozes potential, can they capitalize?
After watching them waste the Stockton/Malone years and what they are already saying about growing from within I doubt it

    They also skipped 53.
Wish the Jazz would have too

Our ceiling will always be 3rd best unless we add another star to our core. Mitchell and Gobert are stars. Rubio and Ingles are fringe stars. We need another star.
Rubio is a fringe starter. Ingles is a great role player.

A look at each member of the current Utah Jazz 15-man roster and where the players fall on a scale of expendable to untouchable.
Before I even read this hilarious article Mitchell, Gobert and Ingles. Everyone else is replaceable. Need shooting and more shooting!

From February 1 until the end of the regular season, Rubio put up 16 points per game on 45.6 percent shooting from the field and 43.1 percent from deep while chipping in 5.1 rebounds and 6.0 assists. He developed an awesome chemistry with his entire team and proved that he is every bit capable of being a playoff-caliber starting point guard.
35% and 32% from 3 against OKC and didn't play in the last series. Hill got lamblasted for missing the GS series but Ricky gets a pass? Playoff caliber?

Should be gone if they want to take the next step

When I asked Rudy about how he relates to Donovan off the court, I think his response speaks to the idea that they aren't the best of friends, but he feels that their relationship has a lot of room to grow. The on-court stuff, however, will be the most important component. pic.twitter.com/HcXRsoSlBd

My gess is your rumored picks are just the guys that randomly are put in the Jazz slot because they are the 21st rated player on their board. All these guys are wings. I realy have a hard time seeing them taking anything but a 4 possibly a 4/5 or a 3/4 but a 4. Rather they have to move up in the draft or down to get one. Just look at the roster. Even if they'd kept Bolomboy I'd think this would have been the pick
I see a wing with the 2nd pick. Maybe a 1 or combo guard. With Bradley being the youngest guy center seems unlikely.
