Arrow OGT: Nov 4 New Hornets vs Old Hornets 8pm EST

The last time a team named the Charlotte Hornets went to New Orleans, they did more than just pay a visit.

The Hornets would like to use Tuesday night's meeting to avoid a three-game slide by getting a rare road victory over the Pelicans, the team that used to own that moniker.

The Hornets (1-2) spent 14 seasons in Charlotte before relocating to New Orleans in 2002, changing its name to the Pelicans (1-2) last season.

Charlotte returned to the NBA with the Bobcats for 2004-05, and the team was renamed the Hornets last summer and reclaimed the history of their previous incarnation.

The Hornets' new era is starting slowly, losing 96-93 at New York on Sunday after falling 71-69 at home to Memphis a day earlier.

There were some positives for Charlotte, which shot 47.1 percent from the field after connecting on only 38.7 percent -- including 10 for 35 from 3-point range -- over the first two games. The Hornets also cut their turnovers from 20 in the loss to Memphis to 13 against the Knicks.

Starting forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist suffered a rib contusion when he fell to the floor while trying to grab a rebound Sunday and is day-to-day. He's averaging 11.3 points and 7.7 rebounds while making 11 of 16 from the field.

If Kidd-Gilchrist is unable to play, more pressure will fall on Kemba Walker, who hopes his next game is more like his last. He scored 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting Sunday after he went 10 for 37 and missed 10 of 14 from long range in the first two games.

Al Jefferson leads Charlotte with 18.0 points per game after scoring 21 at New York. He had 33 in a 90-87 home win over the Pelicans on Feb. 21, just the Hornets' second victory in the past eight meetings.

The Hornets/Bobcats franchise averages 86.2 points and has topped 100 only once while going 2-8 all-time at New Orleans.

Poor shooting has also been a problem for the Pelicans, whose 39.1 success rate is tied with Denver for the league's lowest mark.

Those issues were on display in Monday's 93-81 road loss to the Grizzlies. New Orleans shot 33.7 percent from the floor, misfired on 20 of 24 attempts from beyond the arc and converted just 19 of 29 free throws.

"Obviously in an NBA game there (are) going to be some tough shots taken because that's what NBA players do," coach Monty Williams said. "'But we had a number of open looks.

"Ryan (Anderson) is not going to go 2-for-14. That just doesn't happen."

It did Monday, when the forward finished with seven points after totaling 33 through the first two games. Perhaps a meeting with Charlotte could help since he's averaging 22.7 points and 9.3 boards over his last three matchups.

Also looking to find his shot is Eric Gordon, who's averaging 6.3 points on 7-of-28 shooting this season. The guard, who entered 2014-15 with a 17.5 career scoring average, had 11 points and shot 4 of 14 Monday.

Tyreke Evans has been a bright spot, totaling 43 points with 17 rebounds and 13 assists in the last two games. However, he was limited to four points on 2-for-13 shooting at Charlotte on Feb. 21.
