Default Back on track! Huge TV audience for NBA Game 4.

NBA Finals Game 4 delivered a 12.4 overnight rating, the highest since 2004 and the second-highest Game 4 ever on ABC.

It is up 12 percent from last year, which earned an 11.1.

Thunder need to win 2 in a row to get super-duper ratings!

Game 3 was down because of the U.S. Open.

The final round of the U.S. Open finished with a 6.0 TV rating. While low for the NBA or NFL, this is the highest TV rating for a U.S. Open since 2008, when you guessed it..... Tiger Woods was in serious contention. (That tournament got a 7.5)

The U.S. Open was the 6th most watched Primetime TV show for the week, finishing only behind the 3 NBA Finals games, NBC's America's Got Talent and ABC's "Megastunts" as the most watched shows of the week.

The NBA took the top 3 spots as the 3 most watched programs for all of television for this past week!

Does the rating 12.4 mean that 12 % of alll of the TVs turned on at the time where watching the game?

Yes!

However, this is an overnight TV rating. An overnight TV rating measures the top market TV markets in the country, I believe usually the top 50. This involves about 75% of the population. This number is used until a final number involving the whole country can be tabulated.

For instance game 4 measured a 11.8 overnight and a 10.4 final rating.

A 12.4 overnight rating means that among all TV households living in the top 50-75 TV markets in the country (NY, LA, Chi, SF, Dal, Wash, Bos, Phil, Atl, Den, etc.) 12.4% of them were watching the game.

This means we are likely to see a 10.4 or higher final TV rating for the game!

Overnight TV ratings are also important because that is how many large corporations buy add space. Many companies don't care what people are watching in Idaho or Montana, but they want markets like Seattle, Phoenix, Miami, Chicago, New York, and LA. The overnight rating tells them what the TV rating is in the large, heavily populated, affluent, metro areas of the country... so they can plan accordingly.

That is a really good number!

Agreed. I was really worried when the numbers started trending down. That isn't suppose to happen in a series. The audience should build with each game.

But for this series, that has not been the case.

However, we really had some bad luck with game 3, because it went up against a U.S. Open shown in primetime, which is a rare TV event.

Overall, we are back on track. Thursday's audience should be real good.

Why do I keep hearing that this series is posting historic ratings? I don't see anything historic.

Pretty cool that one out of every two people in OKC watched game 4.
