Spurs prove 'athleticism' is wildly overrated
Spurs once again among the top 3 in the league.
Spurs have almost no 'athletic' players. Geriatric Duncan, 6 foot no vert Parker, Kawhi decent athlete not great, LMA poor athlete, Green nothing special.
What Spurs prove is that most of the league is vastly underperforming despite having much superior athletic talent.
The age of low IQ athletic players are coming to an end. The neck tattoo dumbass player.
The 'greatness' of the NBA player is a mirage driven by the fact that most teams don't play any form of intelligent team basketball.
Spurs, Warriors crap on all other teams despite having almost no great 'athletic' talent.
If I was a team owner I'd see the light and fire these highly paid 'athletic' primadonnas and get some smart team players instead.

Re: Spurs prove 'athleticism' is wildly overrated
I agree with what you're saying but Kawhi is absolutely an elite athlete. Dude is strong as an ox, quick/fast for his size, has a ridiculous wingspan and huge hands. Without him the Spurs' lack of athleticism would really hurt them defensively.

idiots on this board think that if you aren't Westbrook or John Wall that you aren't athletic.

Re: Spurs prove 'athleticism' is wildly overrated
The point is that 90% of NBA teams are exposed as underperforming crazy with the players they have.
Or rather the players are underperforming wildly because they can't use their talents to play team basketball or in the case of many players they're simply not smart enough.
There are much better players athleticism wise, handle wise, jump, run wise than Spurs and GSW, so when they can't compare at all it is because they lack skill and IQ.
Athleticism is wildly overrated.
Guys like Doug McDermott and Mike Dunleavy are better for a championship team than most of the league's high flyers.

You realize that ability to see the game, scoring instincts, intelligence, etc are talents too?
If you're an elite athlete but dumb as rocks then you aren't under-performing. You're just a dumbass.

Re: Spurs prove 'athleticism' is wildly overrated
Tim Duncan is actually one of the best athletes of all time. Durability, coordination, reaction time, etc.
Vertical leap and first step aren't the only things that qualify someone as athletic.

Great college starter
Re: Spurs prove 'athleticism' is wildly overrated
Parker has freak quickness . He's amazing atlhlete . I think you are confused on seperate vertical leap and athleticism .

This is a nice theory, but it's wrong.
The NBA has plenty of teams and players that are not very athletic at all. Plenty of teams in the NBA are at a similar level to the Spurs and Warriors in athleticism.
Athleticism level of the NBA is overrated to a ludicrously gigantic proportion.
You can look at D-League and various numbers of leagues in Europe and see teams loaded with players that would be considered insane freaks athletically if they played in the NBA.
In general, the NBA is not even 1/3 as athletic as people think it is, and all that belief about how "athletic" it is comes from NBA fake hype marketing and from racist stereotyping.
The other aspect of it is that the rules and reffing of the game are designed to make it seem like the players are more athletic than they actually are.

True...it's Spanoulis lack of talent and skill that keeps him out of the NBA...not his lack of athleticism.
