Wait a second, Lakers fans please enter (draft related)
Your 2015 first rd pick is top 5 protected and could actually be the Suns?

Re: Wait a second, Lakers fans please enter (draft related)
the odds of them not getting their pick is low. What are the chances of 2 teams jumping up in the lotto ahead of them. heck it is not impossible that they still get their pick even if 2 teams above them jump into the top 3.

Re: Wait a second, Lakers fans please enter (draft related)
that is factually correct. but look at our starting 5, and our uninterested bench unit. were on pace to stay a bottom 4 team, baby!!!

If they finish bottom 3 are they guaranteed a top 5 pick in the draft? Or is that just the worst record?

Bottom team guaranteed top 4 pick, second from bottom guranteed top 5, third from bottom guaranteed top 6. That's how it works. But generally 3 teams moving up into the top 3 lottery spots doesn't happen. I don't know if it ever has honestly.
Lakers are 4th in the tankathon. They should be fine unless they finish over Orlando in standings and a team outside of the bottom move wins the lottery.

No. They would have to have a bottom 2 record to be guaranteed A PICK.
If they end up with the 3rd worst record they would have a 4% chance of dropping to 6 and losing it.
If they end up with the 4th worst record they would have a 17.2% chance of ending up with the #6 or #7 pick which would mean it would gone.
If they end up with the 5th worst record they would have a 45% chance of losing it.
The good news is they are AWFUL and will probably end up 2-3. I think Minny passes them now that their team is healthy. That makes them #3 behind NYK (who seem to be a lock to "win" the worst record) and Philly, who is young and playing ok now. After Minnesota the next fewest losses is by Orlando with 17. That seems like a comfortable lead to end up at #4 at the very worst and probably 2-3.

Or any team jumps into the top 3. Which has a 45% likelihood. Fortunately for the Lakers, they are AWFUL and have no chance of catching Orl.

Nice of you to notice, Rip van Winkle.
That's why it makes no sense for the Lakers to keep Boozer and Lin, when they won't be back next year and they hurt the tank. Both should be released.

Nah I didn't. I knew the Lakers had a second first rd pick via Houston/Lin trade. Totally forgot about this. Mainly due to the fact that at the time of the trade who even suspected the Lakers would be in a position where losing their first rd pick would actually mean something. Which is probably why it slipped my mind the day after this trade was made.

Lakers are 3.5 games behind Orlando for the 4th worst spot. I don't think releasing Lin/Boozer matter much. And given Jeanie Buss comments about "tanking" doubt the Lakers would do that. Total contradiction.

Re: Wait a second, Lakers fans please enter (draft related)
I don't thin the Lakers will lose their pick. Wolves are better than their record suggests and the Sixers could pass the Lakers as well.
The only team who is worse is the Carmelo less Knicks. Lakers could very well finish with the second worst record guarantying the 5th pick at least.
