Think anything you want of Kobe the man, Kobe the person. But I believe his toughness is pretty unquestionable. He has played with injuries that would sideline most (definitely others who can play with injuries also, but this is not about anyone else but Kobe).

That's what I like about NBA fights, that deep down the players aren't really trying to hurt each other. Like if you show the Shaq, Barkley fight to some random person, they might call them thugs, and much worst. But when you hear Shaq and Barkley talk about it, there's so much thinking going on, on how not to really hurt the other guy.

I think there's some truth there. Another great example of the "punch but not really" situation was Doug Christie and Rick Fox. Christie was in position to do some serious damage there, but the uppercut was so slight, almost as if he was saying, "I don't want to do this, but I kind of have to so... I'll split the difference."
