Weird that the cop was a sergeant and that he had calmed the lady down earlier when she had a scissors earlier. He was escorting her out when she picked up the bat. Should have waited for special services after the scissors incident and been closer before she grabbed the bat. Lady looks more like 90 years old. Sergeant got the department sued picking on a Black guy on 42nd Street BBQs.

In your opinion... circumstances will always vary, but officers are trained to treat everyone, regardless of age, race, or sex, similarly. For safety reasons.

He, more than likely, could have overpowered her. But, when you have a gun on your hip, getting into a wrestling match isn't an ideal situation.

I agree but it also means he didn't do it out of fear and doesn't follow protocol as a sergeant (she demonstrated aggression and unstableness already and he doesn't block her access to a weapon while walking out the door in her robes?) I don't know but he knew he could handle her. It seems like it was an option. He dropped the ball on this one. Surely he knew her reflexes were shot being old and taking a lifetime of medicine.

So I'm reading info on the case in the link you provided. Come to find out, the woman became upset because they were escorting her out in her nightgown and wouldn't allow her to change. Here is a portion from the story in the link PG provided.....

Barry initially calmed Danner down and got her to let go of the scissors. But as Danner was being escorted out of the apartment in her nightgown, she grabbed a baseball bat, ignored orders to drop it and charged at Barry, police said.
