Why do people continue to take Alborz seriously? Honestly, the guy is asking if Dwight Howard would somehow get better offensively by taking more midnight trips to the McDonald's drive-thru. How stupid of a topic/question is this? Skill>Physical prowess, otherwise Ben Wallace would be regarded as one of the best players ever based on his build. Dwight Howard could put on 50 lbs of pure, greasy fat and he'd still be a limited and one-dimensional offensive player. Shaq has been documented as being around 10-12% for the majority of his career and it's not inconceivable that a man who is nearing his 38th birthday might be a little bit heftier than he was in his 20s. And by the way, in no way, shape, or form is 'fat' Shaq better than his 'skinny' past self. 'Skinny' Shaq used to rip down rims, backboard and all, as a pastime and carried Kobe's ass to 3 titles.

Fat is not > Muscule the combination of those two and speed or agility is most dangerous but by the way:

Natural Strength > Muscule Tone and Shaq has all that he is like a taller version of Barkley with less offensive skills, ball handling etc...

I dont think he is the proof, i think he is the exception...

there have been many fat players that have failed, many...but look at a 22 year old Shaq, similar body to what Dwight has, Dwight might end up more Shaq size than some people think?...

Probably so. It depends on position. If you are a guard, lean muscle > fat. If you are center or forward, it seems some little extra fat > muscle.

Just look at Pierce, Perkins. They all got some extra poundage on them that made them easier to anchor their position and easier to use their phat azz to nudge their way back toward the paint. As long as it is not so overweight that they can't run, it seems to be an advantage if they are playing Center.

no, Shaq is 4 inches taller with a much better post up game, Howard's already grabbing more boards the Shaw ever did which is a better indicator of athletic ability.

Shaq is a freak. Bottom line.

Just because it works for Shaq doesn't mean it'll work for anyone.

Shaq still has a low body fat but he is not as toned as he was in previous years. He stopped lifting weights a few seasons back. When someone stops lifting weights they are not as cut and defined. See jermaine o'neal as well, not fat just not as cut.

Dwight would not benefit at all from having a higher body fat, fat would slow him down, reduce his vert and wear him down in games.

if fat were to improve a centres performance eddy curry would be an all star.

man, that shawn kemp sure stepped up his game when he discovered dunkin donuts...

ohhh i forgot, muscular shawn kemp was an all-star in a "weak" era and fat shawn kemp only got cut from the nuggets cause it was the "GOAT" era. if shawn kemp had been fat in that weak era, he would have been MVP every year....

    please ban this birdoverrated idiot.

Fat players also tend to get injured more frequently, are less quick, less lift/explosion, aren't as flexible and have less endurance. Are you seriously claiming more fat = better player?

of course you are gonna score more points when the other top scorers on your team are wesley person, derek anderson, cederic henderson, and brevin knight (big z only played 5 games that year). thats quiet a step down from gary payton, detlef scremph, hersey hawkins, and sam perkins. nobody could score on the cavs at all but kemp, whereas on seattle payton and schremph were capable of dropping 25 ppg on other teams, and hawkins was a former 20 ppger.

Me and Nexus got into the biggest back and forth over this a long ass time ago. Well him and some others while i was arguing Shaq was better when he had fat, and before Riley got a hold of him.

He's gained weight since being in Miami, right? He just looks more like the old Laker Shaq than the Heat Shaq. He almost looked skinny, relatively speaking, with the Heat.

Anyways i think players grow up and learn to play with whatever type bodies they grew up with. LIke Zach Randolph has always probably been fat. Barkley was always probably kind of overweight. They learn to use that weight to their advantage, and it can be advantageous despite what some fitness nut might say I've played bball with fat people that took up so much paint space, that there clearly are advantages to being at least somewhat overweight, depending on the person. I think its ignorant to assume everyone would be better lean like some people here pretend
