Default Best 1 on 1 player in the world would be Stephen Curry...Not Shaq/Lebron/Kobe..

    In a 1 on 1 game, 3 points are worth 2. 2 points 1.

Curry is a career 0.45% 3 pt shooter. Therefore, his opponent has to score 90%fg or better from inside the 3 point line to equal his scoring output (Which is next to impossible).

    A. can HE play defense?
    B. He aint getting the same looks

    Different game altogether.

If being a great 3pt shooter was where it's at, then Steve Kerr would be unbeatable.

    True
I remember all those times Steve Kerr beat MJ in 1 on 1 in the Bulls practice
MJ punched him in the face for it IIRC

is this a joke? Have you ever played 1on1 ball before? Hes amazing on 3s. So on 1on1, you think whoever is playing him would give him open 3s? So basically, you're saying Stef beat anybody due to his 3s?

Curry also has excellent ballhandling skills. If the guy were to guard too near, he'll blow by. If the guy sags him off, he shoots the 3.

His defense isn't that good. But his 3 point proficiency makes up for the points scored on him.

So, let's say he's playing one-on-one against someone like the 6'8" 260 pound LeBron, he's gonna get the same looks that generated the 45% 3P shooting? What's 6'3" Curry and his frail frame gonna do on offense when LeBron just puts his head down and goes barreling down the lane? How the hell is he gonna stop that?

What about playing 6'10" Durant and his 7'4" wingspan who, you know, can shoot and stroke it from anywhere on the court...kinda like Curry but 7-8 inches taller. How the hell is he gonna not only consistently stop that, but how's he gonna consistently get clean looks off over him?

The biggest aspect that's overlooked is the difference in physical play. One on one games are more physical. So Bron can handcheck the f*ck outta Curry to keep him off balance and tire him out. Curry won't be able to easily blow by Bron with handchecking allowed. And Curry will start to turn his back and not use his crossovers as much. He'll end up looking like an old school player because of this.

One on one games tend to become 'back to the basket' games very quickly due to its more physical aspect.

Even if that is the case, which its not, Curry wouldn't be able to stop Durant, Kobe, or Lebron and probably thousands of other hoopers even once.

Moronic thread. You've never actually played basketball competitively have you? A silly concept like this only would come from someone with limited experience on the subject

Orlando Shaq would be the best 1 on 1 player ever. I would say prime LA Shaq, but the younger Magic version was capable of getting up and down the floor quicker, was more mobile. That would come in handy when guarding the smaller quicker players.

Bigger players, especially the athletic ones, have the advantage over smaller, more 'skilled' players. All Shaq would have to do is man the paint, maybe even get out on the perimeter once in a while, force his man to rely solely on his shooting (when playing guards/forwards). On offense, in the paint... come on.

    Case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WagLsOTNlF8

Doc, one of the absolute best offensive perimeter weapons, couldn't do a damn thing against Kareem, a skilled and athletic big man.

A great big man>a great little man.

its a combination of things. What i mean by that, in the video you provided if Kareem was against a guy that could match him when backing down(not completely but he wouldn t get dominated either)a guy like melo would you think that kareem would still win?Doc was an ugly shooter and in this video kinda slow.Put a melo type player and he would win
To me the best 1vs1 player would be a sf/pf that can play iso and be strong enough to not let the other guy score whenever he backs down at the post or start running so he can have an open shot. That s why i think melo would be the best 1v1 player in the league right now.Lebron is up there as well.what he lacks in fundamentals and post moves he gains in power, muscle.height and weight.Durant is very good too and a nightmare to defend but he s very skinny and he would be murdered when try to defend some1 stronger.Kobe is good too but he is shorter and not that strong

90% isn't hard. We don't need prime Shaq here. Even David West should get 100 FG% against Curry. Also, most 1 on 1 is scorer's ball. Once Curry miss, it's over.

Centers would be the best 1 on 1 players not PGs and SGs. 3 point shooting is not how you win 1 on 1s....using size to get easy paint baskets is how you win.

How the hell is anyone gonna guard Shaq outside of another top center? and even they can't really guard Shaq.

Shaq's fg% against Curry would be near 100%. Plus Shaq would rebound any misses he has (which would be practically none because he can't miss a shot when he will just post up and dunk on Curry every time) and he would rebound every Curry missed shot.
