Back when OP was 5yo's in 1989 guys like Antoine Carr seemed like a juggernaut, similar to his Tooth Fairy being real

And each generation is spot on as each generation becomes softer than the previous one in all things, not just basketball. It

It also makes sense all the way to present day. They started calling every little touch foul on Curry and Klay to the point where defenses were afraid of being whistled and magically they start winning. Go figure.

Define “better”? Spending more to be better to offset the pussification so that the result is being in more debt to China than ever before?

Take the most simple example. More busses and kids being picked up and dropped off in front of their homes is technically “better” but at what additional cost to city residents? Gotta pay more since parents feel their kids are too soft to walk a few blocks to the bus stop and stand in the cold while they wait.

Each decade they soften the rules tho. The 70s was more physical than the 80s. The 80s was physical, but the Pistons abused it. You could see the Celts do some stuff. Some flagrant fouls/tech fouls that it's obvious today weren't back then.

90s had the Knicks and the Bulls. But around mid 90s, they soften the rules again with the handchecking. And the Malice at the Palace along with Shaq dominating, big men clogging the paint, slow ass pace, and a bunch of iso ball, they changed the rules to speed up the pace and wing players.

I think they soften the rules again like a year or two ago. LeBron was complaining how they can't even play defense anymore or that it was really difficult? And every player at least once a decade said that since the 70s. I recall ppl saying that about MJ in 1991. Saying how the league soft up since the 70s, but like how the Pistons were guarding him.

Wilt was saying that about Shaq or MJ or something. Doc Rivers complained about the rules changing in 1995 about how they soften up the hand checking and complained about you can't play defense anymore. After 05, ppl complained about it too.

The only time when defense improved and got too good with is when they implemented zone in 2001-02. They put in the 3 defensive sec rule. Stars were complaining about it, but they tried to stop the huge amount of iso ball. Specifically Shaq. It lasted all the way until the 04.

So, naw. I doubt physical play will come back. Some of the stuff could be straight up bad. Like the Pistons cheap shots was bad, and that ain't coming back.

The league notice since Magic, Bird, and MJ that the wing players make the league popular. They would encourage it and make money from it. Plus the spacing and coaching philosophy changed. I doubt they would ever go back, but it depends on the popularity. The league tends to think that scoring=rating. Plus stars. So, they would help with that instead of going back to the 70s or early 00s.

Ooh. And the fights. No fights.

Safety? No one had a problem back then. What technology improved? More busses being purchased and more bus drivers being hired? Do you even think before you post?
