I just read the article, and it says you have to pay for it only if you didn't purchase the Collector's or Digital Deluxe Edition. I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition so I should be good.

Dude.... you realize that squad member bridges the entire plot of the games right? It's an extinct race which the games have been entirely based on outside of the reapers. It's not going to be the same game if you don't buy it. I tried to get the Collector's edition but Gamestop said they have been sold out since middle of last year .

So I guess I'm stuck with the damn download. I'll buy it opening night. I hope the download isn't slow due to the millions that will be downloading it.

While less anticipated....when ME2 did the same thing downloading the Zaeed DLC was stable and fairly fast.

Oh okay... so even with my slow 1.5 meg DL speed I should be okay. Probably 2-3 hour download. I'm hesitant to play the main game before that.

Oh it'll be faster than that if it's relatively the same size. I had shitty internet when it came out. like I could barely be on xbox live and it was done in around 25-ish minutes.

And if they do it like that dlc, It won't affect the game when you get the character/mission downloaded. In fact it was kind of annoying because you picked him up right off the bat on the planet with Archangel/Mordin. And you got his loyalty mission right away.

This type of DLC shows me that Bioware really isn't impressed with their own work.

If you can subtract portions of the main story arc and still present it as a full product, then it's probably not a very good product as a whole. I mean, you can't just cut a significant character out of The Idiot and still call it the same story, but apparently you can do that with Mass Effect.
