Default The Pistons know how to scout.

Look at all their castoffs getting big money. Many being 2nd rounders or undrafted.
    Khris Middleton 5/$70
    Arron Affalo 2/$16
    Greg Monroe 3/$55
    Kyle Singler 5/$25
    Amir Johnson 2/$24
    Brandon Knight 5/$70
    Jonas Jerebko 2/$10

Not a bad farm system to get paid by someone else.

Too bad they can't seem to evaluate which players to keep.

when you consistently pick #7 for the last 8 years.... you are gonna hit on some talent

still interesting to see all these nba guys who were buried in detroit before breaking out, i wish the pistons were decent again, its good for the league when there is a formidable squad out there

Right on. A significant portion of the Detroit Pistons fan population believes Joe Dumars was awful at everything he did in the front office for the entire duration of his tenure (seemingly forgetting about the six consecutive conference finals appearances).

However, while he struggled to choose who to hang onto, he did at least consistently mine some solid players from the draft throughout the years. Of the players mentioned in the original post, I think Monroe and Knight were the only ones selected higher than 25.

True to an extent. They've come close to nailing most of their lottery picks lately, considering their positioning (Greg Monroe, Brandon Knight, Andre Drummond, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope) but as mentioned above, most of the names in the first post came last first round down into the second.

    And to think they traded:

Afflalo for a 2nd round pick
    Knight/Middleton for Jennings
Amir J for Oberto (35 at the time, averaging 2.6ppg)

They might have good scouts...but they have a god awful gm (had...had?).

Yeah poorly constructed after the Chauncey/AI trade. But I don't think a Knight/Middleton/Amir/Affalo/Monroe core would be making any noise in the postseason. Also a change of regeime means cleaning house and bringing in new players.

Dumars always gets a lot of shit for drafting Darko, but most of his picks were actually pretty good.

He just gave up on guys too fast, and signed the wrong players to big contracts at the wrong time.

I'm sure Stuckey will get a decent contract well.

Yeah, not bad considering most of those guys were late 1st/2nd picks.

Also drafted Mehmet Okur in 2nd rd back in the day.

Yeah, but he's on his sixth team since leaving Detroit, so it seems like nobody wants to keep him.

You put 5 guys out there on a shitty team and someone is going to score.
