Is there any player that got more out of themselves than Kobe?
I doubt it
There were plenty of guys more talented or as talented... But never got the most out of themselves like Kobe. Bean got the most out of himself... And 1.

Theres nobody more talented than kobe
You mean physically gifted
Hes never been the quickest guy or strongest. Small hands and tons of injuries. Bad knees since 2004.
The closest thing to kobes complete fundamentals is larry bird

Seems like a troll thread, but regardless...
Bird
Stockton
Nash
Curry (so far)
Dirk
Iverson
David West
Millsap
Big Ben
Barkley
...All are players that really seemed to maximize their abilities/talents, even at (most times) physical limitations.

Well, Kobe could've been better at things. I think Bird and Curry do a lot more with what they have than like, most players ever.
Mainly Bird. Bird couldn't have been a better passer, rebounder and defender than he was. I would say shooter, but Bird badly broke the index finger of his shooting hand before he even played as a Celtic. He could've been a better shooter, which is crazy.

CP3 post-injury is barely 6 ft tall without any athletic advantages over his opponents and is the smallest player on the court 98% of the time yet is still one of the best players in the league. He's elite in almost every skill: passing, ballhandling, shooting, defense even rebounding for his position. There's no way he should be as good as he is, he's basically playing on one good knee.

You could say the exact same about Allen Iverson.
Gerald Green. Look at his ring finger, the dude only has 9 fingers. Alpha as **** and kind of intimidating.

^ Iverson is maybe the quickest player ever. And he could've been even better if he improved his shooting and defense while playing smarter.
Kobe could've been even better if he played smarter as well, he'd get better, higher % shots for his teams and would be more efficient.
Guys like Stockton and Bird never had the physical advantages those guys had. They had to rely on every ounce of IQ and skill they possessed.

I'd give it to Tim Duncan and wouldn't even think twice about it.

It is Stockton and it is not even really very close.
It makes no sense that a small, below the rim, average athlete leads the NBA in 2 of the 5 major statistical categories (assists and steals). And by an almost insurmountable margin.
Kobe is one of the 4 most athletic shooting guards ever. Size, speed, strength, vert, agility and coordination - only MJ had a better genetic makeup.

Re: Is there any player that got more out of themselves than Kobe?
Huh? Kobe had all the tools to be an excellent defender for a DECADE.... he had the gifts to playmake more frequently, to take smarter shots and play more effective basketball that way, to NOT moan at coaches and teammates, and by doing all this win 1-2 more MVP's / Titles... how the **** is this getting everything out of you? For me he's the 6th most talented player ever (after MJ/Bron/Wilt/Shaq/Kareem, disregarding guys who fell to broken bodies like T-Mac/Penny/Grant Hill..), but you won't see him end up there... he's like the opposite.

Ironic because he overachieved and underachieved at the same time, Iverson did not live up to the number one pick overall hype imo.

Tim was looked at as a prodigy coming out though.

yea but, people don't understand that stuff like passing, ballhandling, shooting, FREE THROW SHOOTING... it's all genetics, too.
This is why its so ridicilous when I keep hearing 'oh well this/that guy (think DeAndre Jordan) just need to practice their ft's!' JVG does this alot..
some guys just don't have it in them. You can practice anything and everything your whole life, but you still won't master it... you can't be good at everything.
It's like reading a defense or being a great defender when defenses is alot of hustle, still, hustle or not, you might just not be a good defender...
Not everybody has the motoric skill to dominate that range.
These guys aren't lazy and simply don't practise them, they do, its just we cant learn everything we want.
