Default The media is loving Kawhi the way they truly wanted to love Kobe

They subconsciously realize how badly they scrutinized his entire career play by play

How often they would display out of context graphs during his heyday in order to try to underraate his level of play

Kawhi is the modern Kobe. A poor mans version. But still. The game in general is a more poor version of late 90s-mid00s ball... And back then you would've thought Kobe killed kindergartners every day they way Tom Tolbert, Tim Legler, Rick Kamla, etc used to try take digs at him every single day on national TV.

Meanwhile Kawhi is playing amazing. Kobe-esque even. And the media is somehow able to look at Kawhi objectively and understand that. They RUN to praise him. Which is good. But just understand the lack of objectivity they had with Kobe.

They are repenting for the media basketball sins they made on a daily basis with Kobe.

Kawhi is more of a LeBron, but LeBron could never do what Kawhi did

Kawhi actually seems to be a rich mans Kobe.

His defense is actually as good as advertised, if not underrated.
His jump shot is better than Kobe's from midrange.
He is undeniably a better 3 point shooter.
He is most certainly a better free throw shooter.
    He is bigger and stronger.
    Better finisher at the rim.

Actually a good finals performer too.

It's true. Kobe was always the introverted guy, who was humble and just cared about the game of basketball, but they didn't forgive him for cheating on his wife with a white woman, who tried to exort him with rape allegations.

Kawhi's probably the hardest worker since Kobe and there are many parallels to their games, though Kobe was more dynamic and more fun to watch. Both can play off the ball and drop 30 on any given night without dominating the basketball. Kawhi's obviously more efficient with his scoring in this era, but so is everyone else compared to what they were just 4-5 years ago.

And he's a much better defender than Kobe ever was. Which is normal because Kawhi is in the conversation for best perimeter defender of his era. He's better than almost any all time great, defensively.

He's also as clutch as it gets.

Not really, and Kawhi disappeared in many 4th quarters in the Playoffs. He's only perceived as "clutch" now because of the lucky bounce against the Sixers in a tie game, but we can't forget him missing the FT to clinch the championship in 2013 and leaving Lebron wide open for a jump-shot to clinch the series in Game 7.

He has the tools defensively, he can guard 1-5 in this small ball era and his DPOYs obviously back up his worth on that end and he did win a Finals MVP off his defense alone in 2014 so I'll give you that.

Not hitting every clutch shot doesn't make you not clutch.

Kobe again was perceived as something he was not in that case. Where as guys who were considerably more clutch like Melo were never taken notice of.
