Great reference, and very true about Phil. Left when Jordan left. Left shortly after Shaq left. Left Lakers again after being bounced in 2011. Now he is in a role that he will get a free pass for years.

hes more of a psychiatrist/philosophical meditating therapist

he's too laid back to make a real significant impact unless hes dealing directly with the players and meshing personalities. thats his best attribute. not x's and o's. that was tex winters job.

phil's basketball mind and knowledge for talent is not on the same level of a guy like popovich

It's true enough. I laugh when people say Phil is the greatest coach of all time...how can you be the greatest coach of all time when you've never even had to build a team from the ground up? If Jordan never came back in 95 and Pippen got traded away like he wanted to be...he almost certainly would have bailed for sure. He's a good motivator, but Tex was the x's and o's guy on those coaching staffs.
