Pick a team with one position per decade
You have to fill your team with one player per position who played the bulk of their career in that decade. You start in the 60s and go till the 00s. Your 6th and 7th man coming off the bench will be from the 50s and today (and those can be any position). As bench players, they don't get starter minutes, even if Lebron or peak Kobe.
Guys like Kareem or MJ can be picked from one of two decades, but Wilt is 60s. And of course you can take them in their prime.
What is the best team you can come up with? As a bonus, what year are you taking them from?

Re: Pick a team with one position per decade
Instead of 60s, can I just put myself in there? Seems like I'd be a safer bet. I mean, we're trying to make the best possible team here!

Re: Pick a team with one position per decade
PG- Oscar (60's)
SG- Jordan (90's)
SF- Bird (80's)
PF- Duncan (00's)
C- Kareem (70's)

Sorted. Though I think I'd replace Oscar with West.

What the hell...
Stockton - Shooting, Defense, Playmaking
Kobe - Shooting/Scoring, Defense, Playmaking
Havlicek - Whatever it takes, Defense
Bird - Shooting/Scoring, Playmaking
Wilt - Rebounding, Defense, Scoring
6th - Lebron
7th - Mikan

And what position would that be?

Re: Pick a team with one position per decade
Lebron (2010s)
Jordan (1990s)
Bird (1980s)
Duncan (2000s)
Kareem (1970s)
The 2, 4, and 5 of MJ/Duncan/Kareem might be the best option for this scenario.
Jordan should be locked in as the 90s guy imo, which means no 90s center (Hakeem, Shaq, Ewing, D-Rob, etc) or any 90s PF (Barkley, Malone).
Shaq is a solid choice for the 2000s center, but then you're left with no Duncan/Dirk/KG as your PF, along with no Barkley/Malone because of MJ..so it'd be better to use the 2000s spot on a PF, and Duncan is the GOAT PF.
Then for center..again, none of the 90s or 00s centers, which means you're left with pretty much Kareem or Wilt, and I'd lean towards Kareem there.
The room for variation is with your PG and SF..where Lebron/Bird or Magic/Lebron would be popular..

Your reasoning is pretty legit, but there are tons of factors to consider. I agree, though, that most teams will be built as you described.

You have two SGs.
Kobe and MJ in the same backcourt with one basketball? Who takes the last shot? I mean, who the hell does Lebron defer to?

So essentially you have Kobe and McHale rather than Magic and Duncan. Seems a poor decision.
