    Default Good Guy Michael Jordan

Just left the tim duncan thread and it gave me the idea to make this thread on jordan.

In the Bulls’ first-round battle against the Charlotte Hornets in 1995 after Jordan’s highly touted comeback to the NBA, Jordan didn’t hesitate to leave his mark.

According to former Bulls assistant coach Johnny Bach, Jordan was guarding Muggsy Bogues when this happened:

On the biggest possession of the game, Muggsy had the ball with the Hornets down one. Jordan backed off of him and told him, ‘Shoot it, you f***ing midget!’ Muggsy shot it, didn’t come close. A year later Muggsy actually told Johnny Bach that he believes that single play ruined his career. His shot never recovered.

The next year, Bogues’ career certainly started to decline. Whether or not Jordan was the primary reason for this is up to debate.

Kerr said he talked back to MJ during training camp, and then:

"He punched me in the face

Always a fan of a good "got 'em" story (like the one where Jordan supposedly sent Darrick Martin back to the CBA) but I've never bought the Bogues story in full.

I don't doubt he probably said something to Muggsy about his height, and perhaps in a very crucial situation. But for starters, I'm sure Bogues getting crap about his height was nothing new. To imagine, after eight years in the NBA and four years playing major college ball, that Bogues never got offensively ridiculed about his height and skills, or that he couldn't handle such criticism, is awfully far-fetched.

Moreover, Bogues only played six games the following season due to a knee injury. However, he came back in '97 and not only did he still shoot well from the field, but he set a career-high in three-point percentage (.417), along with leading the league in assist-to-turnover ratio. Granted, his shooting prowess was on a shorter line but even then, if his shot never recovered, as the story says, even a short-lined .417 would have never happened.

This is probably one of my least favorite Jordan myths because it's not even clever, but people eat it up.

    Not Parish.

[QUOTE]In one of his first practices with the Bulls, Parish botched one of the plays and was amused to find Jordan jawing at him just inches from his face.

I remember hearing this. Jordan was way too competitive at times. I think calling him a midget is pushing it. He worked his butt off to get there, respect your adversary.
