He rode the pine in Milwaukee prior to Kidd , and when Kidd got him , he was in the league when Kidd played , so Kidd used him as a second stringer.
OJ Mayo in Milwaukee has had his share of health problems.

When he is going , he surprisingly has a very nice jumper, as well as dimes out surprisingly well in Kidd's system.

from the get if he was in the right system .... he would probably have been a better player career wise./

Mayo's first two years in the league he averaged; 18/4/3 on 45/85/38%. He definitely had to ability to be an All-Star caliber player had he continued to improve. Maybe he got injured or something, but I don't remember any significant injuries.

To be a star in the league u HAVE to be great at something (scoring, passing, boards, defense). And a lot of the superstars in the league are great at two, three, or even four things. Mayo was NEVER great at anything. From there he didn't have great size OR athletic ability.

Even a guy like Rodman was a great rebounder AND a great defender. And from there parlayed that into an HOF career. Plain and simple, Mayo was WAY OVERHYPED!!
