"Federal Withholding." You know that they get a lot of this and much of the California withholding back, right? This is if they choose 0 deductions.

Come on man. Disingenuous as hell.

So, let me get this straight:

Russell just signed a rookie contract with the Lakers worth a total of 23 million AND signed with Nike for an undisclosed amount...

And this dude's getting heated over him buying his dad a car that's starting price is $100,000?

And it's their money, if they want to blow it on dumb shit let them do it.

The thing is, buying a $100,000+ car for your Dad when you just signed a contract worth 23 million AND signed another contract with Nike isn't a stupid thing to do.

It's a maserati lol... it's like going one step up from a jaguar. It ain't a lamborghini. Folks making normal salary buy the car using financing options.

It really all depends what else he's already spending money on. There's no way to tell by just this purchase if hes being reasonable or retarded, but just going by what the statistics say about NBA players it seems likely this is probably one of many ill-conceived purchases made on a loan before his career has even begun.

I'm sure he's already paying all the insurance on the car for his dad. Interest on the car. Now he's gonna be paying lawyer fees and court costs Yall think this is just a drop in the bucket but the point is there are going to be other expenses to pay over the course of that contract, this aint the only one. Lot of other temptations in the next 4 years. Gotta get his own car, his momma a car, his own house, his mama a house, his brother some diamonds, donate to his old school, etc etc all these things players are expected to do. Not to mention invest some, save some for emergency and so forth.

If your dad is THAT guy, probably dont buy him a maserati with your money before youve even started making any

I'm a huge DRus fan and defender since he's been drafted by the Lakers but this is pretty dumb by him. I thought he was smarter than this. He should wait to see if he gets that first huge contract before buying Maseratis for his family. What if he gets injured? That rookie salary is gonna have to stretch for the rest of his life. Not smart, but even even less intelligent by his parents for letting him do it. Obviously they see him as an ATM more than a son.

Well if he's 40 and still driving around with that purple drank in his lap, there's a 99.9% probability he's driving a Maserati because:

    a)He's rap/hip hop star
    b)He won the lottery
c)He was given the car by a rich relative

    My guess is C.

A Maserati is nothing to D'Angelo, his dad is still a dumbass nonetheless.

You guys comparing Russell buying this car to someone in a typical well paying profession, ie Doctor, are ridiculous. Who is more likely to still be employeed in 20 years? Russell in basketball or a Doctor. Russell has 10-12 years to earn virtually all of the money he will ever make in life. Doing shit like buying your drug addict father a Maserati when you first get in the league is dumb as hell. And if he buying stuff like that for his dad, what do you think he's spending on his mom much less himself. And do you not think his dad will want a new car very few years? These guys dropping 100-300k on cars don't intend on driving the car for the next 15-20 years.

Bingo! Its not just one item, its these kids spending habits that kills them. When they live a certain lavish lifestyle and they have no sustainable income after their NBA career is over, we seen an alarming rate of broke retired or out of the league players. Not saying he doesn't have the right to buy these things but I am merely suggesting that they should value their hard earned money and think long term.

I heard that he tried to run away from the cops but his first step was so slow that the fat white pigs easily caught up with him.
