What is keeping South America from thriving?

Re: What is keeping South America from thriving?
I thought this was a well put-together answer I found:
Slavery:Even though both SA and NA had slave labor, had resources and earned their independence at the same generation, NA continued profiting from slave labor for over a century after Europeans left.
Diverse immigration: The biggest achievements in science or technology that made an impact on NA economy were done by immigrants (europeans, asians, jews, etc.). The richest countries/States in NA (CA, TX, Canada, NY) have the most diverse populations. SA was for most of its history an European colony living off Amerindian/black slave labor, where non-european contributions were ignored.
Napoleon: Spain and Portugal were a world power before Napoleon. SA, Mexico and Caribbean colonies were ridiculously rich while NA was poor and mostly ignored by Spaniards, who explored as far as TN or Oregon but didn

This has a lot of truth to it.
The US doesn't want strong competing economies below their southern border, that way they can exploit the natural resources of these countries, they've even declared that any other country that meddles in Latin America will be considered a hostile enemy of the US. The US has destabilized Latin American democracies time and again, installing right-wing regimes that were essentially puppets of the US that served their interests at the cost of their own populations. Everyone in Latin America knows this

Re: What is keeping South America from thriving?
Cultural advantage. North America is largely a product of English and German culture. South America is largely a product of Spanish and Portuguese culture. Sorry, but Spain and Portugal aren't exactly killing it.

Not exactly, not anymore at least as the failed coup attempt in Venezuela against Chavez or recently against Maduro suggests but years ago, the US was in the running for GOAT Evil Empire masked as Disneyland..read up on the CIA backed coup d'etat of the democratically elected Chilean president Salvador Allende and then installed a dictator in Gen Pinochet or how the US supported the military junta in Argentina that "disappeared" thousands of political dissidents or how they supported the despotic Somoza family in Nicaragua, just for starters champ...and that's just in LA

Re: What is keeping South America from thriving?
Lack of continuous immigration from Europe. Spain and Portugal said enough of that shit.
