It hurts my heart how much truth there is in this sentence
On topic, this kid definitely has elite athleticism. However, I see a lot of people forget that pretty much everyone in the NBA was THE BEST in their their area when they were in HS or even college. A nba lifetime scrub player will still be able to beat basically anyone in the world. They are that good. I remember a dude on here one time discussing Sonny Weems (they played div 1 ball together). Said the dude was straight Jordan out there...not even exaggerating. Yet in the nba he struggled to average double digit pts.

Yes and yes. Mixtapes, every play is a highlight. No fundamentals. No context. No intangibles.

OP is right though. LeBron at age 14 wasn't this good.
He was clearly better.
More poised. Refined. Smarter. And with a passing ability that hadn't been seen since healthy Penny or J Kidd in the League.
This. People just don't have a real concept of how great LeBron was from an early age. Right after his freshman year (he was 15, but still) he dominated the 5 star camp and played as an allstar in the upperclassmen game too. He was considered a top 5 player in the nation when he was barely 6'1" and well before he got his one of a kind athleticism. In the Five Star camp profile or some report, the writer made it a point to say that LeBron wasn't a Vince Carter sort of athlete, but had a rare feel for the game.
Watching games with other phenoms wasn't the same as watching LeBron, and people should really stop the comparisons. LeBron stood out as the best player even during bad games, doing things no one else could do.

Nah, he's held static around 35-40ish on any reputable service. After about 15-25 or so (depends on the depth of the class), you're really throwing darts on the difference between the 35th rank kid and the 55th. He's not really dropping anymore. Some kids have gotten better as expected and got the bump in the rankings. Been following the Woods and the knock on him is that he hasn't developed into a PG. He has some of the skills, but it's not clicking for him as far as running a team goes. Which is obviously a big concern because he's going to have to play PG if he makes it to the league.
Also got to remember this high school class is STACKED. Way better than 2015 and 2014. Probably the best top talent since 2007.
Jumper has really improved, all around skills have improved, he's finally realizing he can become an absolute monster on defense. Kid can check any guard in the class fullcourt. You want to see an elite, freak athlete, PG, check out Junior Smith (NC State commit). Best in his class. Crazy athlete, good feel for the game. Reminds me a lot of a taller Steve Francis. And, yet, when you watch him paired against Woods, Woods's athleticism still stands out. It's not the leaping either. He's arguably the fastest player in high school, incredible body control, super agile, plays through contact. All around athlete. That's why you have so many clinging on to the hope that the feel for the game eventually clicks.
Too bad he's UA tho. Some talent there, but the real talent is always at Peach and all the Nike events. Hard to gauge when he's not consistently up against other top high school players. His SC high school comp isn't that great either. Heard he's super low key. Sparingly does interviews, quiet, real close with his family. So I doubt he transfers to a bigger high school and there's a decent possibility he stays home to play for the Cocks.

This thread was so wild even at the time. I feel like people just didn't watch LeBron as a freshman and sophomore in high school.
Through the years, I've come to find that mobility/quickness/size and nuanced/polished skills and dominance are the best indicators, not just dunks and blocks and highlights. LeBron had amazing touch around the basket at an early age. He was crazy fast and clearly had a build that was just going to continue getting bigger. Wiggins had the size and athleticism, but i never saw him make a floater. I never saw great passes, i never saw an off-hand. He dominated high school, but really only nominally. He would disappear for large stretches of time.

Bron is only the way he is, goat, because of basketball IQ. We saw that early with Bron. It was natural.
This is also why Luka is regarded as best player in NBA today.

Hopefully Mikey Williams won't end up as the next Seventh Woods when he plays in College.
