Does not necessarily mean he was innocent, only that there was a lack of evidence s far as I can tell. But from what I can gather he confessed, and family members 70 years later is saying he was pressured by the cops so a judge exonerated him.
I don't know what to say about this.

There were 2 different, probably forced confession.
But what I do remember about reading about this case a few years ago, was one of the quotes from a juror. It took like ten minutes to convict him, and the juror said that they would have convicted him sooner, but that they took a break for a soda pop. Something like that. Can you imagine if your life was in the hands of people like that?
Edit: I just read on Wikipedia: "The entire trial, including jury selection, took one day." Can you imagine that?
