It's just that the things he does well don't appear on a statsheet, and most people/fans live by the statsheet. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of perkins either, my biggest problem with him is the amount of money they pay him. Guy can't catch a pass or finish at the rim. For they amount they pay him they could get a big man that does all of that.

Perkins is a role player, not a negative. You don't play a team of stars or offensive players.
Perkins got his average of 6 boards and a block in 25 mins, but his value is in intangibles such as defensive positioning, IQ, leadership (on and off court), setting screens and affecting shots.
He is the third best interior defender in the league based on proximal FG% at 37.3%.
His team mates both current and former love him and positives flow from their mouth, and his coaches love him.
It takes a keen bball eye and 'insider' knowledge to recognize his value.
To dispute his value as a role player is to show a lack of understanding of professional basketball and all that it encompasses before, during and after games.

The dude gets paid 9 million a year to put up stat sheets such as 2 pts 7 rebounds and 3 TOS. This is actually a high rebound game for him. Before anyone comes in to talk about how he provides defense, Gasol shitted on him for 20 / 10. I honestly would try BJ Mullens right now instead of Perkins.
