Re: How's your home bar game?
My father in law has a lot of money, but he never buys expensive things, with the exception of alcohol. If he doesn't like something, he lets me try it, and if I like it he gives me the bottle.
2 weeks ago he gave me a bottle of Octomore scotch - $160 value. Didn't really care for it but I love it.
Also, I live in Kentucky, so every kind of bourbon you've never heard of is available. When I have to buy my own stuff, I'll try a new bourbon. My current favorite that is affordable is Big Ass. (As in a donkey.) Give it a try if you can find it. I don't know if it's widely distributed.
The best bourbon is Elijah Craig 18. I think it runs $80 a bottle though. I've never had one in my actual possession
As for as drinkmaking, all I do is whiskey on the rocks... except for whiskey sours. One time we were out of lemons so I made whiskey sours with limes. It turned out to be a great hit, and is my "signature drink" to make for guests. Give it a try sometime. A bit less citrus, a bit more bourbon and syrup, and for God's sake make sure you shake it with plenty of ice.

Re: How's your home bar game?
On a side note, and I don't mean to disparage anybody, because this applies to most of my friends too, but how are there so many grown men out there whose primary drink is anything other than whiskey? Beer is for meals and parties.

From Pennsylvania. And like I said, I'm a craft beer snob, but I find this beer great to sip through on any occasion. Or are you one of those hipsters that think if it's not craft it's swill. There are many swill craft beers out there. I think I've refined my pallet throughout the years. I've been to over 30 beer festivals over the span of over 5 years. So much so that brew masters recognize me by face at every venue. I like this beer. I like Coronas. Swill is a matter of personal preference.

I keep bottles of Jamaican Ginger Beer for my young impressionable college bitches.
Nah for real, I keep a bottle of Tanqueray Gin on deck cause I'm a old soul. And an engraved bottle of Jack Daniel's Honey Tennesse Whiskey. Gin and tonics, Hotty Toddys, etc, all on deck throughout the winter...
