That's really crazy that this team has the potential to win 50 games. Who would have thought that at the start of the year? Not this guy. I think I had the Raptors finishing 12th in the East in JBaller's preseason thread, yikes.

Kwajo and I had the Raptors ranked the highest in the East and that was 6th. Didn't think we were in position to win the division too.

By the way, you weren't alone in your predictions:

^Just from that sample alone of major NBA media outlets, Toronto was supposed to be just about where you rank them in the East and bottom 20 (21-23 range mostly) in the NBA.

The Gay trade, which was supposedly the start of our "tank", cleared the way for Lowry to become the undoubted leader, let DeRozan flourish, and got Ross off the bench and contributing. The emergence of Valanciunas and the big man depth has been huge, too. For the first time in years, I'm optimistic about this team's future.

Hmm interestingly I will play a small sour note.

Q posted the best post this year when the Raps went on the winning streak.

"Do not over value this roster; we have seen that before when it comes to the Raptors".

Talents after KLow, Derozan, Val are uncertain.

Amir/Ross/Vasquez/Patterson appear to be solid 2nd line core talents.

Hansboro/Fields/Salmons everyone else is seriously suspect.

I guess I am cautiously optimisitic because the team has cap room and draft picks (for a change) and I trust MU to make the right picks.. No more reaching for Ross when Drummond was available. I would love to see us draft for depth at talents positions so there is no let downs when starters get injured. Nothing wrong with drafting and developing a Young PG, freakishly talented small forward, or even a center with a low first rounder (high second rounder). Add starting depth at Power forward through smart trades.

However the management will still have to improve this roster to be competative next season and beyond. Like Q says - I dont over value this roster (i.e. in 2014/5)

Honestly, that doesn't tell me anything. What happened in 2001 or 2007 has nothing to do with what will happen in 2014.

Everything is due to a change and this year can definitely be the platform to change a lot of things happening with the Raptors on and off court moves. Right now, you just continue to evaluate the core players and hope they continue to blossom.

Personally, I think I have new faith in DeMar, Jonas, and Ross. They all play very well with each other. With veteran leadership from Kyle and Amir, along with a bench giving us superb offense, defense, and leadership as well, it will be up to the management to not drop the ball on their drafting, free agent signings, and trades to even out the rosters glaring holes (post offense, post defense, size at SF, more size at back up center). Toronto is missing that superstar player. Whether a player develops into one or we acquire that player can put this team on a true contenders level.

This.

I think we can all say that in the upcoming future the Raptors will be playoff contenders, if they manage to keep Lowry this upcoming offseason. Hopefully Ross and Val continue to develop and turn the page.

This team does need a superstar player to become contenders. I'm scared that if we do sign Lowry it might hamper our cap flexibility for the future, making it harder to trade for a superstar player.

Yes, Lowry is a must keep for this team. If we do end up no keeping him however, I think the playing time Vasquez and De Colo are getting is pretty vital. They've both done fantastic job filling in for Lowry in the last 3 games.

I know Indiana is playing like garbage right now, but down 2 starters and we beat them by 8 without our best player and best defender speaks volumes on how mentally tough this team is and could further become.

But yeah, I think Lowry will stay if we can make a deep run this year, as he already has a good connection with the current team.

A win here would clinch the Atlantic division and tie a franchise record in wins for a season. Lowry is 2 3 pointers away from setting a new franchise record for 3's made in a season and DeRozan is 11 free throws away from setting a new franchise record for free throws made in a season.

Let's set more history.

Not a good performance on Friday as the team struggled on both ends of the court... Props to the Knicks who looked more energized than the Raps, including Melo and Amare.

Tad concerning though as the team was at home full strength and fighting for that important third seed. Maybe the players are truthful in saying they are not afraid of Brooklyn, although I am.

Unless Raps outwork/hustle the Nets, I have a hard time seeing them beat such a veteran savvy group however I still think it would be a competitive series obviously

ALSO: I'm getting ahead of myself here but if they get the 4th seed they will play Miami as opposed to in Indy in the 2nd round. This 3rd seed is bigger than it seems IMO
