Backpedalling after throwing a punch in a basketball game is just smart. Unlike in Hockey(where everyone gets out of the way and the ref seems to act as a boxing ref) or baseball (when everyone wants to get in on the action.) the immediate reaction of everyone seems to be to stop you from throwing another one. Which gives everyone on the other team a chance to lay one on you. And in any fight the star is not going to come out well.
Anyone expecting an NBA player to NOT "fight girly" or expecting a player to treat an NBA squabble as an actual fistfight is just setting themself up to look stupid with their "omg he is teh p****" posts.
The players are there to PLAY BASKETBALL. Quite obviously, once things escalate and get physical, the reality of ejections and suspensions enters the minds of NBA players. This restrains them to an extent.
They still want to kick the crap out of the other guy (in this case, out of McDyess for pushing harmless Madsen to the floor just because he plays physical ball), but they realize that there are harsh consequences for anything resembling fighting.
That dude is a freaking liability every time hes on the floor. Hes like 3 of Deke's elbows rolled into a guy who cant lay it up and in. Besides, its a friggin flop. Dice is jostling for position (now granted his elbow is pretty high) but thats madsen flopping for the foul (even Tolbert pointed that out).

If I remember correctly, it was pretty clear that McDyess pushed Madsen down.
not denying the contact, Im just saying that it was within the spirit of the game. both are attempting to secure a rebound and going for position. Madsen helped dice push him down. If NBA teammates got into it everytime something like this happened, there would be a suspension every week (think of Deke with his rebounding elbows out).
"Harmless" is one of the last words I'd use to describe Madsen. He's nearly the opposite; "pesky" is a good adjective for him. I like his game, actually, but I'm not at all surprised if he occasionally irritates opposing players. Dice obviously was sick of him, and gave him an unneccesary shove. It's hard to say if it was warranted, because we have no idea what kinds of things were happening in the minutes leading up to the shove. Maybe Madsen caught him with an elbow or something.
Watching the replay, I don't think KG really expected Antonio to be so confrontational. KG gave Dice a very weak little shove, and probably expected that to be the end of it. Instead, Antonio shoved him back harder. KG's not going to take that, so he threw the ball, and then things escalated a little.
Overall, a very minor incident. Nothing like the New York/Denver fracas.
I
But as J Barry said in teh daily dime, KG had no business confronting Dice after the T was called.
Yes he did, when an opponent elbows, and knocks down a teammate, and youre the leader of the team, its your job to confront the aggressor. Had KG not done that, and just picked up Madsen, and asked him, "you alright?" KGs teammates wouldve lost alot of respect for him.

bull, if that was the case, there would be suspensions every week. No scrub on that team is gonna lose respect for KG over it. Pathetic

back to my original question, why is it smart for KG to run back after throwing a punch and a pu**y move to Melo to do the same?
Laugh all you want. Who the crap takes out their anger on Mark Madsen?
Could you pick a more harmless player?
Madsen is one of those pesty guys that just annoys the hell out of everyone. Pretty easy to get a little antsy around him. McDyess barely even hit him, Madsen and his Stanford education knew to go flying backwards like he got dropkicked.
And KG can act as badass as he wants on the court, but he'd get his ass kicked by McDyess. While KG was whimpering, you saw Dice. Just walking slow up to KG, hands down…he'd a whupped KG.
