Troll thread.
Haven't seen the game, but his stats aren't great. That doesn't diminish the fact that Tim Duncan, who is turning 40 this year, is still a fantastic player and a key player on the Spurs, who are again having a phenomenal season.

Who cares, people wil apparently always favor defense over offense.
If you see someone scoring 25 with no defense, people will claim "yeah, but he played no defense"
If you see someone scoring 0 while playing defense, people will claim"yeah, but he played defense"
Apparently, one 50% of the game is better than the other 50%

9-8 and the defensive anchor of the best defensive team in the league in his 19th season at nearly 40 years old. Even Kareem in his 19th season was a shell of himself (still capable of scoring a bit, but had nonexistent rebounding and was a negative defender at that point).
I'm sure he could still comfortably put up 14-10 like he did last year, but with Aldridge he doesn't need to.

Why do these type of threads always come up when Timmy doesn't put up stats that make you jump out of your seat? His impact goes beyond stats, he's never been a boxscore player, it's been like that ever since he came to the NBA. But I guess that's what Kobe-boxscore-watchers are up to now that their favorite player isn't as dominant as he used to be.
At age 40, Duncan still is one of the most important and impactful players on a championship squad. Incredible.

WHAT A TIME.
Depends on his play in the playoffs really. Spurs have never had a Finals run where he wasn't a top 3 player. Arguably top 2. Out of his 6 Finals runs, his lowest impact in the playoffs was 2014 where he had a 21.1 PER throughout the playoffs.

So sick of these threads...the dude is an elite defensive player. He's one of the...I don't know...40 best players in the league still...might be better than that.
He's ****ing 40 years old...stop this shit.
What guys like him and Dirk are doing at their ages is amazing and we should just appreciate it.
Yes, he has an all time loaded team...guess what....that is what happens when you are the kind of leader, teammate, and person that Tim Duncan was/is.

Dirk top 15 all time

because he can cakewalk through the ****ing RS since 2007 while spurs will nevertheless be top 4. he can save his energy during the long and exhausting RS, while KOBE and DIRK have to carry scrub at max just for reaching the playoffs.

Sums it up right there.

They're a team. It doesn't matter who does the scoring.
Most of the successful teams right now have the same philosophy. If something is working, you go with that, even if it's not your superstar.
Anyway, the Spurs would rather have Kawhi and Aldridge win games for them, because they're the future.

In the last title run (2014), Kobe was making $30 million, Dirk was making $22 million, and Duncan took $10 million. Sucks to be them and to not be able to have the same kind of talent around them as Duncan, but that's what happens when you don't sacrifice for something greater. Dirk finally learned from Duncan and took his paycut so the Mavs could actually start to add talent again...Kobe didn't and the Lakers are a bottom feeder.

Finally learned from Duncan? That was Dirk's old deal and really didn't do anything to prevent the Mavs from having an elite team.
This is the problem with some Duncan fans...that pretend like Duncan didn't have a loaded team with a great coach for the majority of his career post 2004...pretending like somehow Duncan made the Spurs get Pop, Manu, Parker...and now Leonard.
Yes, Duncan is one of the best franchise players of all time, but so was Dirk...and Dirk did not prevent the Mavs from putting better players and coaches around him. RC Buford just is way better at his job than Nellie and Cuban were. It's that simple....there is nothing else to really say.
Doesn't change the fact that Duncan was a better player...considerably so at times, but lets tap the brakes on the bullshit above please.
Duncan was better than Dirk...that isn't debatable imo, but you also need to come back to reality.
Dirk learned from Duncan?
Hey dumbass...from the 1999 season to 2015.
Duncan - roughly 232 million in salary
Dirk - roughly 211 million in salary
Come again?
