All African Americans are mixed races... not necessarily mixed with white.
except for recently immigrated Africans, there are all kinds of genes in today's African americans. (though the same can be said for virtually all white Americans as well; whether it is a different European backgrounds or variant white Hispanics)
The only group of individuals who are not predominantly mixed (without automatically being able to distinguish them as mixed) are the Asians (including the browns)

Cherokee i guess could be classified as a nationality and its certainly not a race. Indian people as a whole are a race.
