Fall River, MA. Population: just shy of 90,000.
Pro:
- great Portuguese food
Con:
- everything else
My mother and father are moving to the suburbs closer to where they work within the next month and then I will blessedly have zero reason to ever go back to the pile of crap city I grew up in. Thankfully I'm a decent cook and can make for myself most of the great Portuguese food I left behind.

When I used to live in Philadelphia
Pros
-Very reasonable rent, even in Center City (high end/business center of the city). Could easily get a nice room/apartment for $600+ in West Philly in either an apartment complex or a house shared with roommates. Think of reasonable rent that NYC had in the 80s/90s.
-Very friendly people for the most part
-Food truck galore
-A lot of college kids, solid schools and an Ivy.
-Reasonable city to walk around and get to places.
-Rocky statue
-Solid nightlife in all parts of West Philly and Center City
-Insane fan bases for sports. People are die hard Flyers/Eagles fans. Sixers fans... not so much in recent years. There on par with NYC fans in terms of the knowledge about sports. They aren't as delusional though as some of the NYC sports fans that I know.
-It really is an affordable city and it has a lot of neighborhoods that feel like its the suburbs.
-People say it feels a lot like Brooklyn, New York nowadays
-South street is really fun to hang out in. Some really hidden gems in terms of restaurants.
-Cherry Hill, NJ is a nearby neighborhood and it is a really sweet place to live. Ton of restaurants, stores, hotels, and some nice houses. It's right next to Camden but it's much safer.
-The suburbs of Philly in Pennsylvania are very nice for the most part. Some very solid public schools and from what I've heard, high school basketball is a big thing around there. Tyreke Evans and Kobe Bryant played ball in the Chester/Philly suburb area.
Cons
-At night, the city gets shady once you get deeper in areas like West Philly, North Philly, and some parts of South Philly.
-Getting robbed happens way too often. I lived on a street where 3 or 4 people got robbed in the past few years, one at gunpoint.
-The girls here are honestly not that good looking. Usually the good looking ones are from New Jersey or high end suburbs outside.
-Camden is just outside of Philly and Chester is close by.
-More dangerous than Chicago (not sure if it still is)
-Very very bad public schools.
-Too few cops in certain areas.
-Drugs are a far bigger issue here than NYC. My friend lived in a rougher part of West Philly and said he was offered drugs at corners more than once during the nighttime.
-Homeless people get aggressive at times.
