Default Anyone play basketball in tennis shoes?

I play both basketball and tennis using my low top basketball shoe (Adidas Gil Zero) . However, it ripped apart yesterday. I just found out that basketball shoe will rip apart very quickly if used in tennis court.

I was thinking, since tennis players and basketball guards use practically the same movement. Running, cutting, etc, why not buy just a tennis shoes for both tennis and basketball? A lot of tennis shoes have impact protection as well as being a lot more durable than basketball shoes.

Anyone has experience with this? Buying 2 shoes for 2 sports that has basically the same movement seems like a waste to me.

I used to play basketball in tennis shoes because I played a lot tennis in high school. I didn't feel much difference between the two

I will occasionally wear other sneakers, like new balance runners:

but i keep my bball shoes in my car (with shorts/t-shirts/fresh drawers) so that almost never comes up.

I grew up in the midwest and a lot of people call almost every sneaker "tennis shoes" there, is that what you mean or do you actually mean shoes designed for tennis?
I wear rod lavers or stan smiths to play tennis and they would be terrible basketball shoes because they're cut so low and the sole is so hard

^Nah not runners. I meant a shoe that's designed specifically for tennis.

Something like this (Nadal's signature shoes):

I found out thats a myth, if you need maximum ankle protection, use ankle braces or tape your ankle. Kobe and Arenas use low tops.

Myth. I agree. The only reason you would need ankle protection is because you have weak ankles. A reason for weak ankles could be previous injury, lack of training, in your genes. There are many ankle strengthening exercises out there. Wearing 'high' tops won't increase prevention of sprain by much (they don't even make many hi-tops anymore, almost every shoe everyone wears is MID, think of chucks that lace up a good 2-3 inches over the ankle that's a hi-top). Wearing ankle braces help, but that's just putting more pressure on your knees (if the twisting doesn't occur at the ankle, it has to occur somewhere and the next joint is the knee).

I played one game in low-top airforce 1's. I ended up rolling my ankle and had to sit out way too many games. I'm never making that mistake again. I know af1's aren't tennis shoes, but I'm not risking playing in any low top shoes anymore.

I always play in either indoor soccer shoes or tennis shoes/trainers.

I dont like high tops/basketball shoes I find them restrictive and cumbersome.

I've never owned high-tops... I wear some low-top AI's and I know I have no basis for comparison but I feel it gives me more agility and speed than a high top would.
