Default Most Double-Doubles in NBA History

Double-doubles have always been a premier stat for consistency especially for big men although great point guards can also have many with points and assists. Of course guys back in the 60's tend to dominate the stat although their lack of longevity compared to modern players tempers that a bit.

    Regular Season (700+ club)

    1. Wilt Chamberlain - 968
    2. Moses Malone - 895 (has at least 968 if we count ABA)
    3. Elvin Hayes - 890
    4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 885
    5. Tim Duncan - 841
    6. Karl Malone - 814
    7. Bill Russell - 785
    8. Hakeem Olajuwon - 775
    9. Walt Bellamy - 756
    10. Kevin Garnett - 742
    11. Shaquille O'Neal - 727
    12. John Stockton - 714
    13. Charles Barkley - 709
    14. Bob Pettit - 708

**Artis Gilmore has at least 793 which is good for #7 all time if we count the ABA.

Dwight Howard also seems poised to break the 700 Club considering he already has 614 and will surely play a lot longer. He might even get close to the top.

    Playoffs (100+ club)

    1. Tim Duncan - 164
    2. Magic Johnson - 157
    3. Wilt Chamberlain - 143
    4. Shaquille O'Neal - 142
    5. Bill Russell - 137
    6. Karl Malone - 124
    7. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 119
    8. Elgin Baylor - 103
    9. Hakeem Olajuwon - 100

Lebron is the most likely current player to break into the 100 Club considering he's already at 87. Dwight with 70 also has a decent chance.

The playoff list is highly skewed towards guys who played more games. If we total everything, Wilt is still #1 with Duncan at #2 just one double-double over #3 Kareem.

Why would you not count ABA?

don't really care about the playoffs list, as you said, depending on the team management...
but damn, Hayes and Moses...didn't like Hayes game but he was truly a machine, always delivered. And Moses, the guy that nobody wants under his own backboard

    Only "officially."

Example... Duncan had 568 blocked shots in his 241 playoff games.

Thanks to Julizaver at nbastats.net, Chamberlain had a KNOWN 590 blocked shots. Even more incredible...those 590 blocks came in the KNOWN 81 of his 160 playoff games. And the vast majority of those "known" blocked shots came after his 1964 playoff run. He likely had somewhere around 1000+ blocked shots in the post-season.

As for defensive rebounds... Russell and Chamberlain each had well over a 1000 more career rebounds (and in FAR less playoff games.) Do you honestly believe that neither of them had as many defensive rebounds as Duncan?

{sigh} commissioner O'Brien answered this when they came out with the new stats in 1974 he said approx.... 'you can't stop basketball because all time greats retire. We have a chance to improve the game and make it more exciting with these advanced statistics and records, and i'm sure wilt would be the first person to agree with that.'

They didn't call Duncan "Groundhog Day" for no reason.

Guy, especially in his prime, was the definition of consistent

And was doing it on a slow-paced, low-scoring team in this era.

Longest streak of double doubles in post merger NBA history is held by my boy and future Hall of Famer, Kevin Love. 53 games.

Today's league is soft so double doubles are a big deal.

TD won in 3 different decades. Top 5 player.

    Jordan
    KAJ
    Magic
    Bird
    TD

A case can be made for Russell.
