According to those who have seen it, the video from Oct. 20, 2014, shows McDonald walking away from police when one officer opened fire. His back was turned towards the white officer when he was shot 16 times. Five other responding officers showed restraint in the video. McDonald had a small knife.

The officer who shot McDonald is still on the job on desk duty while the city completes its investigation into the shooting.

One group of young black organizers affiliated with several grassroots organizations, including Black Lives Matter: Chicago, declined the mayor's meeting offer.

Nearly 200 community leaders called for peace Saturday as the city prepares for the video's release. Many fear the video might spark riots similar to those seen in other parts of the country.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez says a decision is expected this week on whether on chare the officer in McDonald's shooting. She says she is not opposing the release of the video.

I guess the obvious question is, did the kid still have the knife in his hand and was he advancing in the direction of other people when he was shot. A cop can still use lethal force if other people safety is at risk.

I believe he still had the knife in his hand, he turned away from the cop, and the cop dropped him with bullets.

If I was carrying a gun without a holster, first place I'd keep it is tucked in my waistband.

Easiest way to pull it out, is to turn your back.

Haven't seen the video so it sounds liked the cops were in the wrong but... here we have another example of a future astronaut who thought the law doesn't apply to him. What else s new. Kid would be alive right now had he behaved like the people in 99.9% of all other police interactions.

The teen did not comply with "numerous police orders to drop the knife," the officer's lawyer, Daniel Herbert, told the Chicago Tribune, when Van Dyke opened fire. McDonald died after being shot 16 times.

Why didn't Mcdonald drop the knife when the police officers asked him to?
