Arrow car junkies come in here

I try to re frame from the desire to buy based on emotion , I am retired.

But my dad had a c10 chevy pickup , and I am contemplating buying a 67 -72 chevy C10 and convert one into a shortbox , and maybe tinker with an engine and a neat paint job...
Plan is initial purchase under $5k , then put in about 10k and drive for a few years and then sell it for about 20k.

I am not into an airbagged truck , just a low rider with juice.

Wife thinks I am nuts , but she doesn't see the investment idea..
Thoughts on this idea are welcome ,,,

do you know how to do fab and body work? cuz shortening the vehicle is gonna cost a lot if you don't know how to weld and work with sheet metal. even if you do know how to do that, do you have the tools and space (garage) to do it? sounds expensive tbh. and with car projects, the cost seems to always end up being a lot more than the initial budget/estimate.

I do not , but a friend built a logging truck on his own , and I can possibly get his help.
There is a frame kit , to cut and weld , and body panels I can buy instead of cut and welding the body shell.
I would do the interior , except the painting , and brakes and stabilizer I am up for it.
painting will be done by a buddy or a local body shop , estimated cost is 6k, with another 1+k to paint underside.

your wife is correct, generally speaking vehicles are horrible investments.

if you want to buy the truck because of your dad or because you are into cars as a hobby, thats fine... but dont delude yourself into thinking that its an "investment", especially if you are planning to drive it for a few years.

Toyota Tacoma is as close as you can get to an investment on a normal car without getting a rare muscle or exotic. Those trucks hold value like crazy
