Welcome to retail where the "customer is always right". That was literally the motto when I worked in retail. Customers would try to return shit from other stores and yell in my face that I didn't accept it.

It's kinda scary because alot of these people who bitch and complain to the store employees aren't actually bad people when you get to know them. But it must be something in human nature that you'll treat some employees you'll never see again in your life like shit.
