Even with a 5-year deal, Lue wasn't going to sign unless he was able to handpick his staff. He didn't want Kidd there, period.

He knew with Kidd on the staff, the FO would fire him without hesitation since they want Kidd, but prima donna Bran wants Lue.

1. you never discuss contract length until after you determine the person is suited for the job


and

2. the length of a coaching contract has no guarantees. just because something is common doesn't mean its a guarantee. you should never go into a job interview assuming any form of entitlement. all you can do is sell yourself and hope for the best
