I think this is after game 3 though, the tide was turning, going into the series people were 50-50 that he would be able to win a title ... by this point he had the spectacular game 2 and even better in game 3.

NBC and everyone could sense what was coming. It wasn't like this was the intro for game 1.

Youtube has the full series up, I'd recommend actually watching it and you'll maybe understand a little better what was going on.

He was coming off an unbelievable game 3 performance where he won the game almost single handedly in over time (Pippen was fouled out).

Uhh because the game before he carried them to a dramatic win, and the Bulls had all the power for the rest of the series. Greatest player in the game about to get his first CHAMPIONSHIP ... yeah, I don't see what's wrong with tis ... Magic was a footnote by this time.

The hype was obviously justified... unlike the artificial hype on NBA players today that can't live up to it.
