Default Charles Barkley Would Dominate in Today's NBA Game

With small ball, no hand checking, and a league void of Alphas, Phila Sixers Charles Barkley would be the toast of the league.

Watch this short video (especially at 0:37 where he dunks over 3 7-foot Hall of Famers out of the halfcourt set). This is probably the single best highlight package ever assembled, his ferocity and intensity would rock the National Beta Association like a tornado tearing up middle American trailer park inbreds.

I agree he would be pretty unstoppable. Drawing fouls at will and manhandling opponents.

If this was before Kevin Love, we would see some clowns here saying how superior today's league is in athleticism and because of that Barkely would not be as effective.

    Now? LMAO

Barkley would still not be better than Durant and lebron. He would be the clear 3rd best player in the league.

Durant Can`t Rebound, Pass or Demmand The Double and Triple Teaming That Prime 1988-1993 Sir Charles Did. He Would Be The Best or 2nd Best After Lebron.

Prime LeBron is much better defensively, but on offense Barkley has a slight edge. Barkley however has a clear edge on Durant at both ends. Below we can see the Sixers plus/minus statistics as compiled by Harvey Pollack.

    http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/sho...&postcount=255

Barkley's 4 year average for Net ORtg from 1989-1992 is +11.5, while LeBron's 5 year average from 2009-2013 is +11.4. Durant's 5 year average from 2010-2014 is +7.8 on offense, and +1.6 on defense. Based on these raw statistics he is 1.5 points worse than Barkley on defense, and almost 4 points worse than both Barkley and LeBron on offense.

A poster on another forum has calculated Barkley's RAPM adjusted to 2013-14 variance. His overall +/- from both 1989 & 1990 would rank #1, when he was neutral defensively (+0.1). He would still be top 5 in his 1991 & 1992 years as his defense slipped. But on offense only his +/- would almost certainly be number #1 for all four years.

I'm sure his 1993 numbers would look great as well if they were available, considering the team offense was +5.3 (with K.J. missing 33 games) and the team defense was -1.3, for a net rating of +6.6. In the 6 games Barkley missed in 1993, the Suns offense dropped to 103.1 (-4.9) and the defense also dropped to 107.3 (-0.7) for a net rating of -4.2.

He might even be the #1 player in 2014, considering how much LeBron's defense slipped. But not from 2009-2013, except in 2011 he would be right there with Nowitzki.

Considering Barkley was one of the most dominant offensive players in history, he would dominate in any period of the NBA.

He'd be a great 3-point shooter in today's game too because he had a good shooting stroke and was a great player with a great player mindset - just like Lebron finally became a good 3-point shooter 9 years into HIS career, Barkely would be able to make the same adjustment.

that is cute, you post a gif and that settles everything.

    LOL, kids these days.

I agree with Round Mound, second best after Bran Sauce.

That video BTW freakin awesome, love the fact Chuck used not just block shots, but catch them, and his two foot explosiveness is kind of unparalleled at the four in today's game.

Barkley would definitely have to modify his game because he enjoyed holding the ball for about 10-15 secs of the shot clock and just back his man down.

That style of play would not happen in today's league because of the modified zone and the 5 second rule.

Yes he would. Apart from his subpar defense, which his offense more than makes up for, he'll be in contention for MVP almost every season in his prime.

Prime Barkley was DEFINITELY better than Durant. Get real.
