The chase down blocks, the ability to shut down MVP Derrick Rose, or Pau Gasol. The ability to rim-protect and block guys like Duncan at the rim. His versatility on defense was insane.

In terms of talent, it's hard to say because Kobe was obviously better at keeping his man in front of him, which is defense 101. But LeBron was more versatile and could guard positions all the way up to 4s (no, he could NOT consistently guard 5's).

But the tie breaker for me is the desire. Who wanted it more? And to me, that is obvious. So to me, Kobe was the better defender.

Lebron was never a rim protector or better shot-blocker than MJ

MJ had plenty of chase-down blocks, and blocked big men more than Lebron ever did - countless highlights of MJ blocking Hakeem, Shaq, DR .. Lebron never blocked guys like this and never as frequently
