Charlotte: Police shooting, protests/riots

Disabled black man has died at the hospital after being shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer in University City, a subdivision of Charlotte, NC.

The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon on Old Concord Road.

Police said they were searching for someone who had outstanding warrants when they saw a man with a gun leave a vehicle. The victim was not the subject of the search, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney.

According to police reports, the man, who has not been named, returned to his vehicle. When they approached the man, they claim he “posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers” and one of them opened fire.
Medics arrived and the injured man was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The shooter has not been named. Police have said, per protocol, they will be placed on administrative leave.

when a cop messes up, it's their word against the dead victim. as long as the cop didn't burn down a kindergarten, his department will back him up and immediately do a deep investigation to find anything that will make the victim appear like a bad person.

Where's Hillary when you need her. I'm sure she has something wise to say to the blacks and some finger wagging to do at us whites. It was a black cop that killed the armed man, but those are minor details.


UPDATE 3:55 a.m.: At least seven civilians transported to the hospital and a handful treated with no transports, all minor injuries, MEDIC says.

BREAKING UPDATE 3:45 a.m.: Dozens of protesters are breaking into the Walmart on North Tryon Street. They started running away once police and SWAT arrived.



UPDATE: 3:15 a.m.: SWAT is moving protesters up the hill off I-85, building a line, using flash grenades.

UPDATE 3:10 a.m.: From Chopper 9, it appears the protesters have moved off the interstate and traffic is moving.
