Wade's on ball defense is lazy. He was a "witches hat" on defense in that regard for a LONG time. It's gotten better post 2011, he visibly shows more effort. But yes, he's always been a crazy help defender.

Especially when it comes to blocking players, taller ones even. I remember him stuffing 7'1 Chandler in that 2011 Finals on a momentum turning caliber potential dunk. The things he does at 6'3 with those uber long arms, jumping ability, and HGH use is incredible.

No his man defense has gotten lazier post 2010 he was a great on ball defender in his younger years and his best defensive year overall was probably 2010.

No it wasn't. At least not what I saw. When he was carrying the load solo for the Heat in 2008, 2009, 2010 with some of the worst supporting squads of all time, his on ball defense was very lazy at times.

His help defense has always been outstanding, though. I'd argue the best I've seen from his on ball defense is actually this season.

His best defensive season: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013 ... when he was carrying all that weight offensively when Miami lost all their vets, his on ball defense slipped a little bit naturally due to having to conserve energy and pick spots.

Also, what amazes the most in that video was in 1:59 where wade blocks Lamar Odom.

Lamar Odom is 6'10. Wade is 6'4, yet he was able to block his shot while standing in front of him

He may not be the best defender ever, but in terms of the last minute or last play, he just may be.
Dwade is easily the clutchest defender I have seen. Countless clutch steals and blocks
