Let's be clear about one thing... Kyrie was injured long before that overtime period. The Cavs and the doctors can cover their asses all day by maintaining that the kneecap fracture was completely unrelated to Kyrie's curious "tendinitis" diagnosis -- which only seemed to get worse and worse unlike most cases of tendinitis -- but to anyone who put 2+2 together, the fractured kneecap was the problem all along.
It's just that, in that overtime period when Klay and Irving banged knees, it fractured to the point where the crack was visible on an x-ray.
Kyrie had been playing somewhere between 50-80% really since the second game against Chicago. Unfortunately, that fracture was going to worsen at some point, whether it was Game 1 against Golden State or in the preseason this coming year if not properly diagnosed. It was just a matter of time.
As for the final play... I thought all season that Kyrie should get the call on those type of last second plays, because he is so good in isolation situations. He was second in the NBA in 2015 behind only James Harden in efficiency in isolation plays, and that's only because Harden so frequently draws whistles... the kind of whistles you're unlikely to get in the final seconds. Otherwise, he was the most efficient.
But, considering Kyrie's limitations due to injury, allowing LeBron to take the shot made sense. I hated his decision to drain the clock and hoist up a long-range, low percentage jumper, but hey...
Water under the bridge now.

I understand having an excuse for losing a finals series or maybe 2. But friggen 4. 2 with cavs. 2 with the heat. Whos the common denominator here??

Yep, missing the playoffs every season of their career was much better

Yeah, because they had such good Finals records before LeBron, right?

Having Kyrie playing throughout the Final, Cavs would've had a really good chance at beating GSW. Fken Lebron
The other way of looking at it was Curry was blowing by Irving and hitting 3s in his eye. If Irving isn't sat, Dellavedova may not have stopped Curry in those 2 games that the Cavs won.

Kyrie had 4 steals and 2 blocks in Game 1, including the game-saving swat of Curry at the end of regulation, while playing at maybe 85%. He was a big reason they were able to take Game 1 into overtime and it wasn't a coincidence that the team totally fell apart after his injury.
Anyone who argues that the Cavs are somehow better without Kyrie Irving doesn't deserve to he taken seriously. Delly was getting plenty of playing time regardless of Irving's status. It's not like the presence of one meant the other couldn't be used.

Stats are nice, but they don't say the whole story, and even then the important part is not what stats Kyrie got on D, but how much worse Curry played on O with Delly on him than Kyrie. Yes, he got swatted by Kyrie on a crucial play, but Kyrie got burned play after play, including that one which he happened to recover nicely. Curry's worst game of the series was by far game 2 when Delly was guarding him, and it took until the 4th quarter of game 3 for him to show any sign of recovery. Curry had 1 game better than the game against Irving, and that was him just getting super hot for half a game and the Cavs generally playing like defeated team.
I'm not saying that Cavs are better without Irving, but they certainly played better the 2 following games without Kyrie as they found a way to stop Curry (using Delly) thus disrupting the whole flow of the Warriors.

Hmmm.
I must have missed where Curry burned Kyrie "play after play," seeing as he didn't exactly have an incredible game. He had an OK game... 26 points on 10-20 shooting (2-6 from 3), 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 turnovers and was a +4... he had 22 points after regulation.
Kyrie had 23 points on 10-22, 6 assists, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks and was a team-high +5.
Just sayin'... for a guy who was allegedly burned, the numbers dont jive. You can say statistics don't matter, but Curry is capable of going off for 30-40 points against any defense. 26 points and a 2:1 A/TO ratio in a game that went an extra period does not indicate that the Cavs' defense was a turnstile until Delly started playing 40 minutes a night.
The other thing is this... Kyrie took over that game offensively for stretches, which was something the Cavs badly needed once GS figured out that LeBron was really the only guy on the floor they needed to guard. The success they had in Game 2 was not sustainable and pretty much everyone knew it.
If your point is that the Cavs couldn't have at least won 2 games with Kyrie in the lineup, I wholeheartedly disagree. The series was basically over when he went down.
