Any evidence you have that suggests a player is probably a scumbag...id enjoy reading about it. Great players....scrubs. Whatever. Lets hear some stories/see some quotes. ISH often surprises me with something I didnt know. Lets see how it goes......


First entry...someone im sure would come up quickly if you asked anyone who played in the 70s:

You want history, you can go to the library.”

And Hayes said, “Our guards get criticized for not playing defense, our forwards for not scoring, but I never hear a word about our center. Mitch Kupchak can shoot. He ought to play more.”

Hayes also had a prickly personality that rubbed some people the wrong way. He liked to blow his own horn and call his own shots. Some called him selfish, others called him petulant, and worst of all, some called him a choker. Alex Hannum, one of eight coaches he played for in the NBA, called him "the most despicable person I've ever met in sports."

And in game 7 vs the Knicks in 74 he asked the coach to just let him get out of the game over and over because he was sucking and wanted to literally give up and not play anymore.

I will say that if only for this supposed quote Cedric Maxwell deserves consideration:


"You know what I like to do in the offseason? I like to get in my big, fancy car, drive around to construction sites, and watch guys work. Then I roll down the window and say, 'Guess what boys? I got nothing to do today.'"



If a player said that these days he would have to issue a formal apology and shoot 30 hours of NBA cares commercials.

Mitch was Wes Unselds backup. Hayes hated that Unseld didnt get hated on and he did. He was always calling out Wes. To which Wes responded:

“I do my talking to other players face-to-face, not through the press. I don’t dwell within Elvin. I don’t know what he’s thinking and I don’t care. The person I know is the basketball player, and right now he is one of the best in the league. What he’s done verifies that. We’ve had more than our share of run-ins off the court. But when he’s on the court he’s a professional and that’s all that matters.”

Phil Jackson sounds like the greatest douche ever. Supposedly got one of his assistants fired to keep Jordan and the management happy with him (don't remember the exact story). Actually everyone on those early 90's Bulls just sound like they were unbearable.
