    When you say "paved the way" ... do you even know who Kool Keith is? I seriously doubt you'd want Kool Keith on the rap version of Mount Rushmore.

    Dr. Dre (the key figure in West Coast gangsta rap or g-funk)
    Gil Scott-Heron
    (influenced genres like rap, hip-hop and neo-soul in the 60s and 70s)
    Rakim
    (pioneered the practice known as internal rhyming)
