Default Ced's Fantasy Coulda-been Celtic thread

OOmpf! I just through rationality out the window. This thread is not going to have an ounce of sense within. If you're coming in to critique my stupid thread, I won't be responding to you. I know this thread is stupid.

Anyway, I was thinking about all the crappy things to happen to the Celtics over the years, and what if all those crappy things had gone in the opposite direction? Bulls, Rockets, Spurs and Lakers fans might not have much to celebrate........

    1. Bill Walton remains healthy until 1990 when he retires at the age of 37.

    2. Larry Bird never injures his back and plays until the end of the 1995-96 season at the age of 39.

    3. Kevin McHale doesn't suffer from crummy ankle injuries and plays until the end of the 1995-96 season and retires at age 38.

    3. Len Bias doesn't OD, and ends up making a commitment to basketball excellence and to God, after he believes that God has spared him from death. He retires in 2004 at 40 years old.

    4. We never trade Ainge.

    5. Reggie Lewis doesn't die from his heart condition, instead doctors discover that he needs a simple surgery that is successful. He retires in 2004 at 38 years old.

    6. Dino Radja never goes back to Croatia. He plays until 2007 and retires at age 39.

    7. Robert Parish plays out his career in Boston instead of those 2 years in Charlotte and 1 year in Chicago.

    8. Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker are still drafted by the C's.

    9. Boston lands the number 1 pick (Tim Duncan) due to an earlier trade with the Spurs (thinking they had traded a late first rounder, only to have Robinson injured for the year, giving them the first pick). Billups drops to number 6, and the Celtics pick him up and keep him.

    10. We never trade for Sebastian Telfair and we draft Brandon Roy.

    11. Boston lands the number 1 pick (due to an early 00's deal with the Blazers), and the rights to Greg Oden, who never has an injury woes.

So our late 80's roster is:
    CT: Robert Parish/ Bill Walton
    PF: Kevin McHale/ Len Bias
    SF: Larry Bird/ Len Bias
    SG: Danny Ainge/ Reggie Lewis
    PG: Dennis Johnson/ John Bagley

Bias gives McHale and Bird the rest they need. Bias creates match-up problems for a lot of teams easily being the best 6th man the league has seen.

    Mid 90's roster is:
    CT: Robert Parish/ Dino Radja
    PF: Kevin McHale/ Xavier McDaniel
    SF: Len Bias/ Larry Bird
    SG: Reggie Lewis/ Danny Ainge
    PG: Sherman Douglas/ Dee Brown

Bias takes the torch from Bird, allowing him to ease into a bench role/ Lewis and Bias erase Pippen and Jordan from the record books. Hakeem only gets to the NBA Finals, but gets beaten by Boston both years, just as he did in the 80's.

    Early 00's roster:
    CT: Tim Duncan/ Ben Wallace
PF: Dino Radja/ Zach Randolph/ Antoine Walker
    SF: Len Bias/ Walter McCarty
SG: Paul Pierce/ Reggie Lewis/ Joe Johnson
PG: Chauncey Billups/ Andre Miller/ Dee Brown

As Bias and Lewis start to fade, Duncan, Radja, Pierce and Billups help carry the team onward and ****-block the Lakers and Spurs from winning as many titles. We would have traded Zach Randolph away for being a headcase.

    Now:
CT: Greg Oden/ Kendrick Perkins/ DeAndre Jordan
PF: Tim Duncan/ Al Jefferson/ Ben Wallace
    SF: Paul Pierce/ Ryan Gomes
SG: Joe Johnson/ Brandon Roy/ Tony Allen
PG: Chauncey Billups/ Andre Miller/ Rajon Rondo

The Celtics continue their winning ways by moving Duncan to power forward and experimenting with a twin towers line-up. Jefferson, Perkins, Oden, Roy and Rondo are groomed for the future.

Just imagine how cool that would have been as a Celtics fan.

No I missed the draft, and only was active for a few weeks in the middle. I lost interest after not taking the time to be in the draft

Keep the pick and take Roy in '07?

Interesting thread, but you're assuming they would have done EVERYTHING right with no bad luck at all. Fat chance, expecially during the Pitino era...

    Cool thanks!

    I'll add Roy.

You must not have read the intro, I was assuming the Celtics had the best luck ever.

Any Boston fans out there that have photohop skills? It'd be cool to see some of these guys in Celtics jerseys.

I prefer Pierce. Nowitzki went before 10 anyway

I forgot DeAndre Jordan, I was high on him at draft time.

    Yup, missed that, sorry.

    Other notables:

    - Not cutting Ben Wallace

    - Drafting Tracy McGrady instead of Ron Mercer (as some in the organization wanted to do)

    - Drafting Andre Miller rather than trading the pick for Vitaly Potapenko

    - Keeping Joe Johnson (Phoenix preferred Kedrick Brown anyway )

    - Drafting Zach Randolph and Tony Parker instead of Kedrick Brown and Joe Forte

This is going off the deep end.

Bah, how could I forget this!

I'll leave those as what ifs. I liked Forte...... *pukes*

I like it a lot. What a depth chart!

Well, that shows that a lot does depend on the franchise. It's mostly too bad that a lot of these guys didn't stick around. I think it can highly impact the new hopes on the team when the older (ex)players are around, like Duncan benefitted from Robinson and now Blair from Duncan. That's why I hope KG will stick around. SA is also very good in the draft. I think that's the only way (apart from pure dumb stupid luck, which is a huge part) to continually be an elite team.

But if all this happened you would've missed ray and kg playing here.
