You never quite see exactly what happened (the ankle is mostly out of the camera shot), but look at the reactions of Al Jefferson and the Raptors bench in the 2nd and 3rd replays, and you know it's a bad injury (guys with their hands over their eyes, using towels to block their view, et cetera). I went back and watched those reactions a couple times and they just say it all.

Yeah, on youtube it's semi-blocked by the bottom of the screen. But just looking at Al Jefferson and the rest of the bench, I could tell how gruesome it looked. as well as looking at his ankle afterwards.

I watched it on TV and can't even bring myself to watch the youtube link.....just horrible.

"MIGHT be out for the rest of the season" Whoever wrote this did not see the injury, there is no might about it.

I saw it on Sportscentre last night from a higher angle and you can fully see that his leg is uncapable of straightening in its natural position... I won't go as far as saying that this is as gut wrenching as Livingstons knee pop but it most definitley runs a close second.
Unless he heals abnormally fast hes done for the season without question... And anyone that contains optimism about a slight return needs to watch last nights travesty from the viewpoint i seen it in... FILTHYNESS!

Now lets just hope this doesnt carry into next year though, because you can never be too sure when an injury such as this is inflicted upon any human being over the height of 6"8...

Hope he eventually can play again. Jorge's a tough guy, to see him screaming is pretty unsettling.

Whats with the Spaniards getting injured? First Gasol, then Calderon and now Garbo. Pretty trippy

Cool Re: Jorge Garbajosa update: Season probably over

What have the Toronto Raptors done to upset the basketball gods?

I knew it was bad when I saw him screaming in complete agony, then I saw the foot bent at a bad angle, and finally thereís Al Jeffersonís reaction.

At least thereís a sense of finality to his injury. The club isnít left hoping that he may or may not come back for the playoffs. Itís done, no question about it.

I wouldnít be surprised if the Raps get blown out these next 2 games. I think whenever you lose an important piece of the rotation, it takes a few games for the club to re-adjust. More mental than anything. Kinda like the first few games Miami played without Wade (not saying Garbo is Wade).

Hopefully, by the Charlotte game this Sunday, Raps should be OK. And when Bargs comes back, thatíll give the them a lift.

Garbajosa spent Monday night in a Boston hospital, then flew back to Toronto on Tuesday and was scheduled for surgery later in the day at Toronto Western Hospital.

Colangelo said the team would make a statement after the surgery was complete, but added: "Clearly we're talking about a fracture and a soft tissue injury."

"I haven't witnessed anything like that in person ever," said Raptors swingman Morris Peterson. "I just had to turn my head, a lot of guys did. Thankfully it's not career-ending, it's nothing he can't bounce back from."

He's virtually not going to be playing competetive basketball for at least 4-6 months.

That type of break is not a common one. Most ankle sprains or breaks happen with the ankle twisting/turning to the inside, while this one, a more rare injury, happened to the outside.

I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back after rehab a less explosvie athlete. Not saying he was one to begin with, but those type of injuries can really have some lingering effects that may never go away.

postive note: he won't have to play for Spain this summer... so at the beginning of next season he'll be completely rested, unlike this year where you could start the see the effects of playing a full euroleague season + playoffs +the world championships + the full preseason...

He's gone for 6 months. He'll be ready just in time for training camp in October.

Garbajosa suffered a displaced ankle joint with a ligament tear and a fractured fibula after falling awkwardly in Monday night's game at Boston.

He averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in his rookie season.

"We're going to miss Garbo. He brings a lot to our team," Toronto coach Sam Mitchell said. "We just hope he has a speedy recovery and gets healthy is ready to play next year."

Garbajosa was coming back on defense trying to block Celtics forward Al Jefferson's dunk. He fell hard, grabbed his leg and yelled to the bench for help.

The Raptors medical staff covered Garbajosa's leg with a towel. He was later loaded onto a stretcher and wheeled off the court.

Toronto signed Garbajosa to a three-year, $12 million contract last summer after he played 11 seasons in Europe. The 6-foot-9 starter earned a number of honors during his European playing career, including 2005 and 2006 Spanish club finals MVP. He helped Spain win the world championship last summer.

Toronto is already dealing with the loss of No. 1 pick Andrea Bargnani, who had an appendectomy last Wednesday and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Which makes me glad that Livingston didn't scream, it would've been bloodcurdling.
