It's the problem with the Slavic/Eastern European sports strategy in general. The coach is like an emperor there. What the coach says is law. The coach is allowed to scream, ridicule, taunt, but you're not allowed to say anything or act on your feelings.

This creates these very skilled, very team oriented players, who do not fully develop an adult, creative, alpha personality.

Spain on the other hand are also group oriented and authoritarian as a culture, but they have a lot of individuality in their culture as well, such as the Matador in bullfighting and they have an understanding of aesthetics and musicality. This creates personality types more well rounded for sports.

You see the same phenomenon in soccer. Spain are not necessarily more skilled than other robotic teams like the Dutch, but they're vastly more creative.
